Baptist Pound Cake image

Here is an old recipe. I was visiting my aunt at her B&B in Alabama and she had friends over for dinner one night. She brought this amazing delicious and simple pound cake. She told me how her kids had surprised them once for mothers day when they were little by making this alone in the kitchen. It's that easy! It comes from some old beat up home ec book she had from school back-in-the-day. For the whole story see https://lapetitekitchen.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/baptist-pound-cake/

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup(s) butter
1/2 cup(s) shortening
3 cup(s) sugar
5 - eggs
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
3 cup(s) flour
1/2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1 cup(s) milk

Steps:

  • Using a hand or standing mixer, cream the butter and shortening together. Then add in the sugar and mix well.
  • Add the eggs one at at time, mixing well after each.
  • Whisk together the flour and baking powder. Alternate adding this and the milk to the sugar mixture. So not over mix or it might toughen the batter. Add the vanilla.
  • Pour this into a greased bundt pan, smoothing over the top. Put into a COLD OVEN and set it for 350. Bake it for 1 hour 5-15 minutes. The top should still look a little wet. Test for doneness with a straw.
