Autumn Apple Pie image

I bought many different types of apples while visiting the Smoky Mountains. My intentions was to make apple butter, however, I had a few that needed to be used so I made an apple pie. I found this I think in a blog on the Internet but can't remember which one. I wrote some of the directions down and then kind of did a few things different. The pie turned out good but I just needed some ice cream to go on top and I was out!

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 cup(s) sliced apples (i used mixed kinds of fresh apples)
1 cup(s) heavy cream (i used evaporated milk)
1/2 teaspoon(s) nutmeg, cinnamon, and dash salt
3/4 cup(s) sugar
1 - unbaked pie shell

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Bake pie shell for about 8 minutes. Let cool. Turn the oven down to 350 degrees.
  • In a bowl mix sliced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, dash of salt and I poured the milk over this tossed it with a wooden spoon. I added a sprinkle of cornstarch (about a teaspoon) and poured this into the cooled pie shell.
  • I used a rolled out pie crust and topped the pie. Cut some slits on the top of the crust. Let bake for 10 minutes until it starts to brown a little, take out wrap the edge of crust with foil, butter the top a little and then sprinkle a little sugar on top. This last part is optional. The recipe said to bake for 1 hour but I actually turned my oven down to 340 and baked for maybe 40-45 minutes.
