Au Gratin Potatoes image

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup margarine or butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
4 ounces (1 cup) shredded American or Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
5 cups (5 medium) sliced peeled potatoes
1/4 cup unseasoned dry bread crumbs
1 tablespoon margarine or butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 2-quart casserole or 6 individual casserole dishes. In medium saucepan, melt 1/4 cup margarine. Stir in flour and salt add milk. Cook until mixture boils and thickens, stirring constantly.2. Stir in cheeses and potatoes. Pour into greased casserole. Combine crumbs with 1 tablespoon margarine sprinkle over potatoes. Cover.3. Bake at 350°F. for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until potatoes are tender. If desired, garnish with chopped chives.TIP: Potatoes can be cooked before combining with other ingredients.
