Apple Rose Water Tartlet image

An apple tart, with the tangy flavors of wine, rosewater, and citrus. I created this recipe based on the flavor profile of an apple pie recipe from the first American cookbook, "American Cookery" by Amelia Simmons.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/2 lbs apples
2 tablespoons rose water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2/3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter
2/3 cup riesling white wine
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon cornstarch
pie crust, recipe of your choice or frozen crust

Steps:

  • 1. Slice apples and mix with sugar, cinnamon, orange juice and rosewater.
  • 2. Melt butter in a large skillet. Add apples, wine and cornstarch. Saute until apples begin to sizzle, then about five minutes more. They will be just tender, but still fairly firm. Let cool.
  • 3. Line tart pans with crust. Pour filling into crust.
  • 4. Bake in an oven at 400 degrees until crust edges are golden brown.
