- In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine cereals and walnuts. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 2 minutes, stirring after each minute. Pour over cereal mixture and toss to coat., Cook, uncovered, on high for 4 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes. Spread onto waxed paper to cool. Add apples. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt baking chips and shortening; stir until smooth. Pour over mixture. Cool. Break into pieces; store in an airtight container.
