Apple Pie Bars image

My daughter brought this recipe home from cooking class in school..... What a hit it has become with our family.... Moist and delicious, just in time for Autumn!!!

FILLING:
6 large granny smith apples (peeled, cored and diced)
1/3 c light brown sugar
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp honey
CRUST
2 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c butter
1/2 c light brown sugar
1 egg beaten
TOPPING:
1 c flour
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c light brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c butter

Steps:

  • 1. Filling: Combine all ingredients in a saute pan and cook on high for 15 min. stirring frequently. Cook until all liquid dries in the pan.
  • 2. Topping: In a medium bowl mix all dry ingredients. Slice butter into small pats and use pastry blender to make coarse crumbs.
  • 3. Crust: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl combine all dry ingredients. Slice butter into small pats and use pastry blender to make coarse crumbs. Add the beaten egg and hand mix.
  • 4. Procedure: Spread the crust on greased rectangular pan or baking dish and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Spread the filling on top or the crust to edges evenly. Sprinkle on the topping over entire filling. Turn off the oven and place the prepared bars into oven for 20 minutes... Remove and enjoy!!!
