Number Of Ingredients 17

DUMPLING
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup Crisco
4 1/2 tsp water
6 cooking apples, peeled and sliced
6 Tbsp sugar
3/4 Tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp butter
SYRUP
1 1/2 cups apple cider (or juice)
1 Tbsp cornstarch
3 Tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp grated lemon rind
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp cinnamon, optional

Steps:

  • Mix flour, salt and water, cut shortening into mix with fingers. Form into 6 balls. Roll balls into 6 inch squares or circles. Place apples on rolled out dough. Add 1 Tbsp sugar , 1/8 tsp cinnamon and 1/8 tsp butter on each. Fold dough over apples and pinch to seal edges. Drop into gently boiling water or into boiling syrup. If using syrup boil for 1 minute before adding dumplings. Lower heat and cook uncovered 10 minutes, cover and boil 10 minutes longer. Serve with milk or sauce.
