3-Cheese Mac 'n Cheese image

When I first started learning to cook, I used the boxed mac 'n cheese and was happy with that. Later on, though, I decided that homemade had to be better. This is my basic version but on occasion, I try different types of cheeses.

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 cup(s) cooked elbow macaroni, drained
2 cup(s) grated cheddar cheese
1 cup(s) grated mozzarella cheese
8 ounce(s) velveeta cheese, cubed
1 1/2 cup(s) milk or heavy cream
1/2 cup(s) sour cream
2 tablespoon(s) butter, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a large sauce pan, heat milk until hot but not boiling. Add cheeses, sour cream, butter and salt; heat on low until smooth, stirring constantly.
  • Once you have the macaroni cooked and drained, place in a large bowl and while still hot and add the cheese mixture. Gently stir to combine well.
  • Pour macaroni mixture into a casserole dish and top with additional cheese if desired. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
