Although there is a well-known non-alcoholic version, this more potent cocktail with a generous measure of rum, is something more of a lion's paw! From a book of Cocktails by Hamlyn.

crushed ice
1 1/2 ounces white rum
1 ounce heavy cream
1 ounce pineapple juice
1 ounce lime juice
1 ounce cherry juice
pineapple slice
1 maraschino cherry

Steps:

  • Put some crushed ice in a blender and add the rum, cream and juices.
  • Blend at high speed for 15-20 seconds.
  • Pour into a hurricane glass.
  • Decorate with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.
  • Enjoy!

3 cups pink grapefruit juice
3 cups orange juice
2 tablespoons grenadine
2 tablespoons lime juice

Steps:

  • Pour grapefruit juice and orange juice into a pitcher and then add grenadine - watching it all fire up like a tequila sunrise. Add the lime juice and stir to mix. Keep chilled in the fridge until needed.

30 ml or 1 fluid ounce fresh lime juice
30 ml or 1 fluid ounce fresh lemon juice
30 ml or 1 fluid ounce fresh orange juice
Grenadine, to taste
Maraschino cherry, for decoration

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together in a cocktail shaker already packed with ice and then strain into a glass. Add a cherry for a final flourish.
