This is a recipe I came up with when I was helping to raise 6 kids. Every penny counted. You can add onions if desired.

1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
1 pound ground beef

salt and ground black pepper to taste

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 Tbsp garlic, minced (if you don't like strong garlic flavor use less)
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
2 c sour cream
8 oz mushrooms, sliced (you can also use canned, drained)
1 pkg 16 oz egg noodles, cooked

Steps:

  • 1. Brown ground beef with onion and mushrooms. Cook until beef is no longer pink and onions are translucent.
  • 2. Add the can of cream of mushroom soup. I usually let this simmer on low heat until the noodles are ready.
  • 3. Just before serving add the sour cream. Heat for about 5 min and add salt and pepper to taste. Spoon over cooked noodles.
  • 4. If you want it on the thinner side add about 1/4 cup of beef broth or milk.
  • 5. ****Note, this is also good served over rice or mashed potatoes. Make enough for 4 servings****

POORMAN'S STROGANOFF

One of those recipes that you usually have the ingredients on hand. Very good for drop in company prepared to serve with a salad and crusty bread. I noticed you only had one recipe of this title. This recipe calls for more ingredients than that one. A friend gave me this recipe in 1987. He stated that the first time he entertained the woman who would become his wife, this is what he prepared. Romantic!

I got this recipe from my sister many years ago. It was an old stand by at that time because I was a lot younger and ground beef was really cheap. I hope you enjoy it.
