PIZZA MEATBALLS

Pizza Meatballs image

I was looking for something a bit different to serve as an appetizer at a get-together with friends and came up with these pizza meatballs. Everyone loved them, and all the cooks (men and women) wanted the recipe. This is good for an appetizer or to make a complete meal served with garlic bread and a tossed salad.

Time 1h10m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 14

cooking spray
1 pound ground beef
½ pound bulk Italian sausage
2 (14 ounce) jars pizza sauce, divided
½ cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ cup finely diced pepperoni
¼ cup finely diced ham
¼ cup finely diced onion
¼ cup crumbled cooked bacon
1 egg
1 (8 ounce) package mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Mix beef, sausage, 1/2 cup pizza sauce, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, pepperoni, ham, onion, bacon, and egg together in a bowl using your hands.
  • Form meat mixture into meatballs around cubes of mozzarella cheese.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry meatballs in the hot oil until all sides are browned, being careful not to break them or let cheese out, 5 to 7 minutes, working in batches.
  • Spread a small amount of remaining pizza sauce into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Place meatballs into the dish in a single layer. Top with remaining pizza sauce.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until pizza sauce is bubbling, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and bake until cheese has melted, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve while hot.

PIZZA MEATBALLS

Pizza Meatballs image

A very easy recipe from "Taste of Home". Each meatball is stuffed with a cube of mozarella cheese. Kids love these! I usually brown them the day before I serve them and put on low in the crockpot for several hours with the pizza sauce.

COBBLESTONE PAN PIZZA WITH SAUSAGE MEATBALLS

Cobblestone Pan Pizza with Sausage Meatballs image

This is a recipe I came up with for fun for a pizza contest. Wish me luck! (*You had to use a premade pizza crust, but I'm including alternate instructions to make it another way, too. Actually how I used to make it.) It turned out delicious and will be made many times again in the future! Enjoy! Recipe and photos by me.

Provided by Kelly Williams @WildfloursCottageKitchen

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 - extra large beaten egg
1 pound(s) mild italian ground sausage, i always use johnsonville
1/3 cup(s) grated parmesan cheese, i just use kraft for this
1/4 cup(s) italian-style seasoned breadcrumbs
2 - green onions, green part only, sliced thin
1 package(s) 12" boboli pizza crust, cut into 1" pieces, *see alternative
1 jar(s) thick-style pizza sauce (14 oz.)
1/4 cup(s) more grated parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon(s) evoo
1 large green bell pepper
1 large shallot, halved and thinly sliced
1 cup(s) chopped fresh mushrooms
10 - oz. tub philly cooking creme italian cheese and herb flavor
12-14 slice(s) pepperoni
1 - small can sliced black olives, drained
1 pound(s) fresh mozzarella cut into pieces
1 teaspoon(s) dried oregano

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, mix first five ingredients and shape into 16 meatballs. Place onto parchment paper-lined baking sheet, sprinkle with a little coarse ground pepper and bake in 400 degree oven for 16-18 minutes. Remove to paper towel-lined pie plate scraping off any excess fat as you go. While meatballs are cooling, cut up peppers, mushrooms and shallots and saute in 1 Tbl. EVOO for 5 minutes. Set aside. With a pizza cutter, cut pizza crust into 1" wide strips. Turn pizza and cut again making 1" square pieces. Place into bowl and toss with 3/4 cup pizza sauce and 1/4 cup parmesan cheese. Spray a deep baking dish (2 1/2 quart) and spread coated pizza crust across the bottom like an apple pie. Sprinkle evenly with the sauteed veggies. Dollop teaspoonfuls of the creme over veggies. Drizzle spoonfuls of rest of pizza sauce around creme sauce and around edge of dish. Top with pepperoni and black olives. As much as desired. Top with meatballs. Place cut-up mozzarella in spaces around meatballs. Sprinkle whole top with a little dried oregano. Tent top with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes in a 350 oven til cheese is melty and pan pizza is bubbly! Let cool 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve with jalapenos and pepperoncini peppers if desired. (I used Ragu Traditional Pizza Sauce and it worked really well. But you can use your favorite or homemade.)
  • *If not wanting to use a pre-made pizza crust, you can sub 2 tubes of biscuits cut into quarters.
