PEPPERONI CHEESE BREAD / CALZONE

Pepperoni Cheese Bread / Calzone image

This recipe uses a scone/damper dough for the bread, so no major kneading or waiting around for dough to rise. What you use to fill it is limited only by your imagination - pepperoni, ham, chicken, whatever takes your fancy! Note: you can make self-raising flour by mixing 2 cups all-purpose flour with 2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and a pinch of salt.

Provided by Dottygumdrop

Categories     Scones

Time 40m

Yield 1 loaf, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups self-raising flour, sifted (see note)
1/2 cup fresh oregano, chopped (or 1/4 cup dried)
1 1/4 cups sour cream
1 tablespoon milk
250 g cream cheese
1 tablespoon milk
200 g sliced mushrooms, sauteed (or tinned)
200 g pepperoni slices (or ham, chicken, etc)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Combine flour and oregano in a large bowl. Combine sour cream and milk and stir in to dry ingredients. Mix quickly to form a soft dough.

  • Place the bread on a lightly-greased (or lined) baking tray. Cut a few slits across the top of the dough and brush with extra beaten egg. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in a hot oven (200C/400F) for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. Serve warm with a green salad or slice into finger food size snacks.

PEPPERONI & CHEESE APPETIZER BREAD

Pepperoni & Cheese Appetizer Bread image

I just came across this in a pile of old papers. It was a favorite of mine from long ago. I made this for many occasions and it was always a hit. I hope you all enjoy it too. It's an old Fleischmann's Yeast recipe.

Provided by Donna Roth

Categories     Cheese Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 1/4 c warm water (105-115f)
2 pkg fleischmann's active dry yeast
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp margarine, softened
6 1/2 c all purpose flour (about)
18 slice thin sliced provolone
1 1/2 c sliced/chopped pepperoni
1 egg, beaten

Steps:

  • 1. Measure warm water into large warm bowl. Sprinkle in yeast; stir until dissolved. Add sugar, salt, margarine and 3 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
  • 2. On lightly floured surface, knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turn to grease top. Cover; let rise in warm draft-free place, until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • 3. Punch dough down; divide into three pieces. Roll each piece to a 12x8-inch rectangle. Place 6 slices provolone and 1/2 cup pepperoni on each rectangle. Roll up from long side as for jelly roll; seal. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover; let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • 4. Slash tops; brush loaves with egg. Bake at 400F for 25-30 minutes. Cool slightly; serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers, reheat to serve.
  • 5. Goes great with tomato sauce or olive oil for dipping.

1 - 8 oz shredded cheddar, or cheese of your choice
1/2 - 3/4 c shredded parmesan cheese
2 eggs, blended
1 Tbsp italian seasoning
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
cornmeal

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree Assemble ingredients. Spray jelly roll pan with cooking spray and sprinkle evenly with cornmeal. Whisk your eggs and seasonings, set aside
  • 2. Take one loaf of bread dough and spread out on a floured surface. If not too sticky, you can skip this part. Roll it to about half the size of jellyroll pan.
  • 3. Brush egg mixture evenly over dough, keeping about an inch from all sides. Sprinkle lightly with some parmesan cheese. Next, spread your pepperoni, then half of the cheese.
  • 4. Carefully roll the dough starting on long end, being careful to keep cheese and pepperoni intact. Pinch seams and ends. It doesn't matter if some seams open..lol it gives character. Does not alter the taste.
  • 5. Place roll seam side down, on the prepared pan, sprinkled with corn meal...this is just for crunchiness.
  • 6. Brush with egg mixture; lightly sprinkle with more parmesan , and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes until browned. Now repeat with other bread dough. If only making one, cut ingredients in half.
  • 7. Leave set about 5 minutes. Serve with your favorite Marinara sauce. These are delicious without.. Enjoy that cheesy, crunchy goodness!

PEPPERONI CHEESE BREAD

Pepperoni Cheese Bread image

I've come to love Tastefully Simple's shaker herb mixes. So, I found this (it IS a Tastefully Simple recipe with some of my own modifications) and prepared to make it for friend's. Except, the hubs texted me while he was getting groceries to say he couldn't find a beer bread mix. "I'm on it!", I say. Luckily, I work in a different town, so we have twice the opportunity to get fancy stuffs like this -- I went to this wonderful little gourmet foods store and picked up an Italian bread mix that uses beer for the liquid. Simples! It's a wonderfully hearty, savory, bread.
