BUTTER PECAN TURTLE BARS

Tastes similar to the Turtle's candy, but with a crust, and made in a baking pan...absolutely delicious...a wonderful treat!

Yield 1 13x9 inch pan

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter (no substitutions)
1 1/2 cups pecan halves
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 cup butter (no substitutions)
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Set oven to 350 degrees.
  • Prepare a 13x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter; blend with fork until crumbly.
  • Pat the mixture onto bottom of prepared baking pan.
  • Sprinkle pecan halves evenly over the unbaked crust; set aside.
  • In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar with 2/3 cup butter.
  • Cook, over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture begins to boil; boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Drizzle the caramel mixture over pecans and crust in baking dish.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until cacamel layer is bubbly, and crust is light brown.
  • Remove from oven, and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  • Spread chips evenly as they melt.
  • Cool completely before cutting into bars.

I got this recipe from a dear friend yrs ago...when we wanted something ooey gooey and bad for us...this is what we made! It's like a caramelly toffee center, mmmmmm These are always the first to disappear on the holiday goodie trays...course I don't usually have many left to put on the tray...lol

bottom layer:
2 c flour
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c butter, softened
1 c pecan halves
filling:
3/4 c brown sugar
1 c butter
top:
1 c chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. combine flour, brown sugar, butter. Pat into a 9x13 pan, sprinkle with pecans, set aside.
  • 2. To prepare caramel layer; In a heavy pan, combine brown sugar and butter, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly and fairly fast to incorporate the butter into the brown sugar. Continue this until mixture begins to boil. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Pour over crust. Bake at 350 for 20-23 minutes or until caramel is bubbly and crust golden. Remove from oven, and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Allow chips to melt slightly then swirl over top! When almost cool, cut into 1 1/2" squares...or in my sons case, 6x6" chunks lol

i got the recipe from a clipping in the newspaper & decided to try these! biggest hit ever, everyone loves them! they are so yummy good!

CRUST INGREDIENTS:
3/4 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c brown sugar (i use dark)
2 Tbsp argo corn starch
1/4 c butter or margarine, softed
1/2 c finely chopped pecans
FILLING INGREDIENTS:
25 (5.5 ouce package) werther's original chewy caramels
2 Tbsp butter or margarine
2 Tbsp heavy cream
2 Tbsp karo light or dark corn syrup (i use light)
1/2 c semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. LINE an 8 x 8 pan with aluminum foil with cooking spray; let foil overhang edge of pan by 2 inches.
  • 2. BLEND flour, brown sugar and corn starch in a large bowl. Cut in butter with two forks or pastry blender until crumbly. Stir in pecans. Bake in preheated 350F oven for 11-13 minutes or until crust is lightly browned. Remove from oven.
  • 3. HEAT up unwrapped caramels, butter, heavy cream and corn syrup in a large microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100% power)for 1 to 2 minutes stirring frequently, until mixture is smooth. carefully spread over baked crust. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until caramel is just starting to bubble. Remove from oven and place on wire rack.
  • 4. SPRINKLE bars with chocolate chips and let rest for 5 minutes until chocolate is melted. carefully spread chocolate over the caramel using a spoon for swirl effect, leaving portions of caramel exposed.
  • 5. REFRIGERATE for 2 hours or until chocolate is set. Remove from pan by lifting opposite ends of foil. place on cutting broad and peel away before cutting.
  • 6. ENJOY!!!!!!!

This is a recipe I found on the Internet. I made it and loved it! It tastes like a combination of a candy bar and a shortbread cookie! YUM! I addded my photo.

1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c butter-softened
1 c crushed pecans
2/3 c butter
1 c milk chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. Combine flour, 1 cup brown sugar and softened butter in large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer 2 to 3 minutes or until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Pat mixture evenly onto bottom of ungreased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Sprinkle pecans evenly over crumb mixture.
  • 2. Combine 2/3 cup butter and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar in small saucepan. cook and stir over medium heat until entire surface is bubbly. cook and stir 1/2 to 1 minute more. Pour into pan, spreading evenly over crust
  • 3. Bake in 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven 18 to 20 minutes or until entire surface is bubbly. Remove from oven; immediately sprinkle with chocolate pieces. Let stand 2 to 3 minutes to allow chocolate to melt; use knife to swirl chocolate slightly. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Use sharp knife to cut into bars.
