This is a drop cookie. I have been making it for over 35 years. It is the first cookie I ever made!!!

½ cup butter
1 ½ cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sour cream
6 tablespoons cinnamon sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Cream butter to consistency of mayonnaise. Add sugar gradually, while continuing to cream.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, mix and sift flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream; beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Drop by teaspoons or tablespoons depending on the size cookie you want. Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture over the tops of the cookies. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup salted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 large egg
1 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease two cookie sheets or line them with Silpat.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla and egg.
  • Mix, scrape it down the sides of the bowl, and mix it again.
  • Add the sour cream and mix it until it is combined.
  • Add the flour mixture and mix it until it is combined.
  • Drop the cookies onto the prepared cookie sheets 3 inches apart (they do spread).
  • Bake the cookies for 15 minutes or until they are light brown.
  • Cool them on the cookie sheets for 5 minutes, and remove them to wire cooling racks to cool completely.

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cream together shortening, sugar and brown sugar.
  • Mix in egg.
  • Mix in buttermilk and vanilla.
  • Combine the dry ingredients.
  • Stir dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
  • Chill dough for 1 hour.
  • Drop mixture by rounded teaspoons 2" apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle on top of cookie dough.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes or until set.

3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 cup shortening ((Crisco))
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
4 cups all purpose flour

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, or bowl of a standing mixer, combine the sugars, eggs, shortening, and vanilla.
  • Beat for 2 minutes, making sure to scrape the bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, gently whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and flour.
  • Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture in 3 increments, alternating with the buttermilk.
  • Beat just until completely mixed together.
  • Cover loosely and refrigerate dough for 2 hours.
  • Using a 2 inch scoop, drop the dough onto a parchment covered cookie sheet. The scoops should be scant, and not over-filled.
  • Carefully sprinkle sugar on each cookie dough scoop.
  • Bake for 10 to 11 minutes. The cookies will crack on top. Test with a toothpick to make sure the middle is done.
  • Let cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute. Remove to a cooling rack.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container.
