This is an easy to make but wonderfully delicious treat. We pack them in tins and give as gifts during the holidays. Use your favorite nuts to top the cookies.

4 ounces saltine crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
¾ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).
  • Line cookie sheet with saltine crackers in single layer.
  • In a saucepan combine the sugar and the butter. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Immediately pour over saltines and spread t cover crackers completely.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes. Spread melted chocolate and top with chopped nuts. Cool completely and break into pieces.

Buttery saltine crackers are topped with nutty-sweet toffee and then spread thick with rich, melty, milk chocolate (what's not to love?). We're not exaggerating when we say they're the ultimate test in portion control. Don't say we didn't warn you.

40 salted saltine crackers, or enough to line your pan
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped pecans, if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Line 15x10x1-inch pan or large rimmed cookie sheet with foil. Spray foil with cooking spray. Place saltine crackers in single layer in pan.
  • In 1 1/2-quart saucepan, heat butter and brown sugar to boiling over medium heat. Continue boiling for 3 minutes. Immediately pour over saltines; spread to cover crackers completely.
  • Bake 5 to 6 minutes or until crackers look all bubbly.
  • Remove from oven; sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Let stand a minute or two to melt; spread evenly. Or, in microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips uncovered on High about 1 minute or until they can be stirred smooth; spread over crackers. Top with pecans.
  • Cool completely on cooling rack, about 40 minutes. Refrigerate 15 to 20 minutes or until chocolate is firm. Break into pieces.

40 Saltine Crackers ((just over a sleeve))
1 cup Butter
1 cup Packed Brown Sugar
1 11.5- oz package Chocolate Chips
1/2 cup Chopped Pecans (Optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Line a jelly roll pan with foil. Spray with a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Fill the bottom of the cookie sheet with crackers. Set the pan aside.
  • In a sauce pan melt the butter over low-medium heat. Add brown sugar once butter is completely melted and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 3 minutes.
  • Immediately remove from heat and pour bubbly mixture over crackers covering the crackers completely.
  • Place pan in the oven for 4-5 minutes, or just until edges of brown sugar mixture gets bubbly.
  • Remove pan from oven and immediately and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the crackers.
  • Allow the crackers to sit for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate. Then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate over the cracker layer.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans or your favorite topping over the melted chocolate (optional).
  • Place the pan in the refrigerator to allow the toffee to harden.
  • Then remove the toffee from the pan and break it apart. Enjoy!
