MY FAMILY'S TUNA-PASTA SALAD



My Family's Tuna-Pasta Salad image

My mom used to make this for us when we were kids and Dad was out of town. (He was a meat and potato guy). I've adjusted it a little to fit our taste. Cook time includes chill time.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 (6 ounce) cans light chunk tuna in water, drained
10 ounces macaroni (small shell)
1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup chopped sweet onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
2 -3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish, to taste
2 -3 medium dill pickles, chopped
2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1 cup hellman's light mayonnaise (may add more)
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
salt and pepper (We all like this with a lot of pepper)

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to directions.
  • Add the frozen peas to the pasta just before you take it off the stove to drain in the colander.
  • In a large bowl mix mayonnaise and vinegar.
  • Add pasta and peas and mix well.
  • Add remaining ingredients, mixing well.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Refrigerate for about an hour to chill before serving.

1/4 tsp. dill weed
1 cup elbow macaroni, cooked, rinsed
1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup chopped red onions
1 can (5 oz.) white tuna in water, drained, flaked

  • Mix mayonnaise and dill until blended.
  • Combine remaining ingredients in large bowl. Add mayonnaise mixture; mix lightly.
  • Refrigerate several hours or until chilled.

8 oz. large pasta shells
3/4 c. mayonnaise
1/2 c. sour cream
3 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
2 5-oz. cans albacore tuna, drained
1 c. frozen green peas, thawed
1/2 c. chopped celery (about 2 stalks)
1/2 c. chopped red bell pepper
1/4 c. chopped red onion
Lettuce, for serving
Potato chips, crushed

Steps:

  • Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain and rinse under cold water to cool the pasta. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, parsley, salt, garlic powder, and pepper in a large bowl. Add the pasta, tuna, peas, celery, bell pepper, and onion. Gently fold together until well coated, making sure not to break up the tuna too much.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Spoon into a serving bowl lined with lettuce leaves. Top with chips just before serving.

One 12-ounce package tri-color bow-tie pasta
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 stalk celery, cut into large chunks
1/2 red bell pepper
1/2 red onion
Three 5-ounce cans solid white tuna in water, drained
3 hard-cooked eggs, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 teaspoons Miss Brown's House Seasoning, recipe follows
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
Chopped fresh curly parsley, for garnish (optional)
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Cook the pasta in boiling salted water according to the package directions. Drain and run under cold water to cool, then drain again. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  • While the pasta cooks, pulse the celery, bell pepper and red onion in a food processor until finely minced. Add to the serving bowl along with the tuna and eggs.
  • Stir together the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, House Seasoning and relish in a small bowl. Pour over the pasta salad and toss gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving, if desired.
  • Stir together the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Store in an airtight container.

1 pounds pasta shells
4 ounces bread
1 units onion
4 ounces cheddar cheese
12 ounces tuna
0.5 cups kraft miracle whip
1 units pepper
1 units garlic powder

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to boil, add box of pasta to boiling water, and cook for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Drain the pasta, and rinse in cold water to cool off the shells. Chop up the pickles and onion and add them to a large bowl. Cube the cheese (or buy the cheese already cubed to save time) and add to the pickles. Add the tuna to the pickles and cheese.
  • Add the cooled pasta shells to the bowl along with the Miracle Whip and mix everything together. Add pepper and garlic powder to taste. The Miracle Whip should just evenly coat the tuna and shells, but not too thick a coat.
  • Cover the bowl and chill it in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving.

0.5 bags peas
1 cups onion
1 cups celery
1 cups tomatoes
2 cans tuna
1 packets ranch dressing mix
1 cups mayonnaise
1 units salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Boil macaroni until al dente. Add frozen peas just at the end to thaw them out. Chop onion, celery, and tomato; add to large bowl and set aside. Drain tuna and add to vegetables.
  • Drain noodles and peas, rinse with cold water. Add to vegetable bowl and mix together. Pour in ranch dressing mix, and add mayo. Mix well. Refrigerate until cold.
