Have had this recipe for quite a while. Just recently it was served (by a caterer) at a luncheon I was at. They also added chinese noodles which gave it a wonderful crunch. I think that I will try it with candied pecans the next time I make it.

1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 of an onion, grated (recipe did not stipulate size of onion)
1/3 cup vinegar
1 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon celery seed

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar, mustard, salt and onion.
  • Add the vinegar and olive oil and beat well till combined.
  • Add celery seeds and whisk all together to blend.

My friend Kristi shared this recipe with me in the "birthday recipe book" written by my friends and neighbors. It is from the La Becasse Restaurant in Maple City, Michigan.

1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons celery seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 cup cider vinegar
2 cups vegetable oil

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the sugar, celery seeds, salt, mayonnaise, garlic and dijon mustard.
  • Whisk in the vinegar, mixing well.
  • Slowly add oil, whisking constantly, until emulsified.
  • (For the smoothest results, Kristi uses the whisk attachment on her Kitchen Aid.).

1 1/3 cups sugar
1 teaspoon grated onion
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dry mustard
3/4 cup white vinegar
2 tablespoons celery seeds
3/4 teaspoon paprika
3 1/2 ounces honey
1 cup salad oil
1 cup extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, onion, salt and dry mustard Stir in the remaining ingredients except the oils.
  • In another bowl mix the salad oil and olive oil Slowly added the oils, while stirring Refrigerate for at leadt 2 hours before serving.

1/2 c sugar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp salt
2 tsp celery seed
2 tsp grated onion
1/3 c vinegar
2 tsp creamed horseradish
1 c salad oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all except oil and only add 1/2 of the vinegar; put in blender and turn to high speed. Pour oil in slowly; add remaining vinegar slowly. (chill)

1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons onion juice
1/3 cup vinegar
1 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed

  • Put the sugar, mustard, salt, onion juice, and vinegar into a pint jar and shake well. Add the oil and continue shaking vigorously until all are well blended. Add the paprika and celery seed and give the dressing a final shaking.

1 cup romaine lettuce, chopped into small pieces
1 cup spinach (chopped into small pieces)
1 tablespoon carrot, shredded
1/2 cup red cabbage, shredded
4 ounces boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 tablespoon coconut
1 tablespoon slivered almonds, toasted
1 mandarin orange, sectioned and drained
1/2 slice fresh pineapple (round slice)
1 slice orange (round slice)
1 cup teriyaki sauce
1 cup honey
1 cup water
1/4 medium onion
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 tablespoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 cup fresh orange, Chopped with pulp and peel included

Steps:

  • To make teriyaki marinade:
  • Combine all ingredients.
  • Marinate chicken breast for 2 hours.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade and broil.
  • Cut into strips.
  • To make salad:.
  • Toss together the greens, carrots, and red Cabbage.
  • Place the broiled chicken strips on top of the greens.
  • Sprinkle the coconut along each side of the chicken. Top with toasted almonds.
  • Arrange the mandarin orange segments, pineapple, and orange slices in alternating clusters around the plate.
  • Ladle warm Orange-celery seed dressing over the salad just before serving. Serve while chicken is warm.
  • To make dressing:.
  • Puree the onion in a blender with lemon juice. Set aside.
  • combine sugar, dry mustard, salt and vinegar in a double boiler.
  • Bring to a boil for 1 minute.
  • Cool until lukewarm, then blend on low speed with mixer for 5 minutes.
  • Add the oil, onion mixture, celery seeds and chopped orange, and blend at medium speed for 10 minutes.
  • Bottle and store in refrigerator. Serve at room temperature.
