Tangy, sweet old fashioned baked beans, are made the easy way in this side dish. This is my grandma's favorite semi home-made recipe. She makes it every Thanksgiving, and we usually end up scraping the pan clean! Never any leftovers!

2 (28 ounce) cans baked beans
1 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons pancake syrup
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
4 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, stir together the baked beans, onion, brown sugar, syrup, ketchup and mustard. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish, and lay strips of bacon across the top.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the bacon is browned and the beans have thickened.

My family enjoys when I make these baked beans to go along side anything from Tri-tip to hot dogs. The sweet and spicy blend of brown sugar and pepper sauce make these canned baked beans *Kicked-Up*

2 (28 ounce) cans baked beans (Original)
1 lb thick sliced bacon, chopped
1 teaspoon minced dried onion
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 teaspoons Pickapeppa Sauce
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/3 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • In a dutch oven or stock pot cook chopped bacon until translucent, not crispy. Add canned baked beans. Turn to Med-high heat and cook 5 minutes.
  • Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add ketchup, pickapeppa sauce, cayenne pepper and minced onion. Simmer on Medium for 5 minutes. Add 3 Tablespoons Honey and continue to simmer for additional 10 minutes. Stirring often.
  • Turn heat off and let beans sit. They will thicken.
  • Beans can be refrigerated and heated when ready to serve.

I have my favorite baked beans recipe that I can now do in the Crockpot Making it easy to make ahead and transfer for potlucks, picnics and entertaining on the boat. I've seen several recipes on Zaar, but this is my version of the Slow Cooked Sweet and Spicy beans that my family enjoys year round.

1/2 lb bacon, chopped into 1/2 inch dice
2 (32 ounce) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups original barbecue sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
3 tablespoons Pickapeppa Sauce, sauce
3 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in slow cooker - mix well.
  • Cover with lid.
  • Cook on Low for 4-6 hours (or high for 3 hours).

Found online, these baked beans are really simple to make, and have a lovely balance of flavors. The bacon adds texture and a savoury sweet deliciousness. Since these beans are cooked uncovered, everything gets caramelized and the beans are not mush. Since every oven is different, check your beans at an hour and a half.

4 slices bacon, chopped
1 sweet onion, chopped
28 ounces baked beans (1 large can)
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup brewed coffee

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Cook the chopped bacon in a pot over medium heat until browned (about 10 minutes).
  • 3. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon, reserving the bacon grease in the pan. Drain the bacon on paper towels.
  • 4. Add the chopped onions to the pot with the bacon grease and cook for 15 minutes over medium-low heat, or until caramelized.
  • 5. Remove the pot from the heat. Add the bacon back to the pot as well as the remaining ingredients.
  • 6. Stir it all together.
  • 7. Pour the beans into a greased 8" baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
  • 8. Remove the beans from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

1/2 lb thick slab bacon, thickly sliced and chopped into 1/2 inch dice
2 (32 ounce) cans baked beans
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • In a heavy pot or dutch oven, add the chopped bacon and cook over medium heat until the fat begins to render, (do not drain grease).
  • Add baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, hot pepper sauce, and honey and bring to a boil to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Reduce heat slightly to mantain a simmer for 25 to 30 minutes, or until flavors are combined.

1 1/2 medium onions, chopped coarse
1 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
4 tablespoons vinegar
4 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans

Steps:

  • Carmalize onions. Brown ground beef in the onions. Drain fat.
  • Add all remaining ingredients and stir well. Simmer 5 minutes. Transfer to ungreased 2 quart casserole dish.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees.

3 can(s) 28oz maple brown sugar or brown sugar hickory baked beans
1 can(s) 22oz bush's "sweet heat" (limited flavor) baked beans
16 oz roll bob evans maple flavored ground sausage
4 Tbsp ground mustard
4 Tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp ground red pepper
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 medium onions chopped
1-2 green peppers chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Brown and crumble sausage while cooking.
  • 2. In a separate skillet, saute onions and green peppers until semi-tender.
  • 3. While sausage and veggies are cooking/sauteing, pour cans of beans into a deep baking dish. Add the ground mustard, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce and ground red pepper to beans and stir around to incorporate spices.
  • 4. Once sausage and veggie mixture are cooked, add both to beans and stir around to evenly distribute & incorporate sausage/veggie mixture into and throughout beans.
  • 5. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • 6. Enjoy!
