You can't make dessert any easier than a dump cake recipe. Fruit lovers will have to try this version with chopped apples, tart cherries, and apple pie spice.

Provided by BHG Test Kitchen

Time 2h45m

Number Of Ingredients 15

Nonstick cooking spray
1 cup plain yogurt
0.5 cup milk
1 egg
3 tablespoon butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1.75 cup all-purpose flour
0.5 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon apple pie spice
0.5 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped apples
0.5 cup chopped walnuts, toasted*
0.5 cup dried tart cherries
Ice cream (optional)**

Steps:

  • Lightly coat a 3 1/2- or 4-qt. slow cooker with cooking spray. In a large bowl combine yogurt, milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir in next five ingredients (through salt). Stir in apples, walnuts, and cherries. Spoon batter into prepared cooker.
  • Cover and cook on low 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 hours or until cake registers 190°F to 200°F and center appears nearly set, giving crockery liner a half-turn halfway through, if possible.
  • Turn off cooker. If possible, remove crockery liner from cooker. Cool, uncovered, 10 minutes. Remove cake; cool completely on a wire rack. If desired, serve with ice cream.

Amazingly easy and amazingly good... too good! This is my mother-in-law's recipe that was just recently shared. It would be a shame not to share it. Best served warm and with vanilla ice cream (of course).

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 can cherry pie filling
1 can apple pie filling
1 box JIFFY yellow cake mix
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup pecans, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 13x9 pan. "Dump" in the cherry pie filling, then the apple pie filling. Sprinkle dry cake mix over top (break up lumps a little). Drizzle with melted butter. Top with pecans. Bake for 35 minutes, then turned off oven and leave in 10 to 15 minutes more. You may need to adjust cooking time-you just want the fruit bubbly and the topping browned.
