Forget the cans, these slow cooker baked beans from scratch are where it's at! With just a few minutes of prep time, you'll end up with the best baked beans ever!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound dried navy beans
8 ounces uncooked bacon, diced
1 medium onion
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/3 cup molasses
1/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard (see notes)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, or white vinegar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
5 cups of water

Steps:

  • Place the beans in a large pot of water to soak overnight, or at least 4 hours (see notes). Drain and remove any hulls or broken beans that may have floated to the top.
  • Place the beans in your slow cooker. You may also use a pressure cooker on the "slow cooker" setting (see notes).
  • Add the rest of the ingredients - diced bacon, diced onion, tomato paste, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, and water. Stir to combine.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set on high. Cook the beans for 8-9 hours until tender. Adjust seasoning as desired. Serve warm.
  • Once cooled, the beans can be stored in the refrigerator up to a week or frozen for several months.

These Old Fashioned Crock Pot Baked Beans may be made from scratch, but they are so easy...and delicious to boot!

2 cups Great Northern Beans (dried, rinsed and sorted)
5 cups water
1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
1.5 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup brown sugar (packed (choose which measurement you want based on your own personal preference))
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 cup molasses

Steps:

  • Put your dried beans in your crock pot
  • Pour your water on top
  • Add in your finely chopped onion and salt
  • Cover and cook on high for 8-10 hours (mine were good at 8 hours)
  • Drain your beans reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid
  • Put your beans back in your crock pot along with your reserved cooking liquid and remaining ingredients
  • Gently stir it all until well combined
  • Cover and cook on high for an additional hour

This recipe came from a friend's dad. It can be changed around using different kinds of pork sausage and BBQ sauce. I've always had allot of complements on this recipe. Goes well with grilled foods. A side dish that can't be beat. To make more add another can of Beans and 1/2 cup BBQ sauce and garlic to taste.

1 lb pork sausage (Hot Jimmy Deans works well)
1/2 medium onion, chopped

This is my receipe I have used for years. It goes together quickly and is absolutely delicious. It has never failed me and I am always asked for the receipe.

2 cups dried navy beans
8 cups water
1 large onion
1 lb bacon (cooked)
1 cup water (hot)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Soak beans overnight in 8 cups water.
  • Next day drain water and add to pot with lots of water.
  • Bring to boil reduce heat and simmer 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  • till tender.
  • Drain and rinse with hot water.
  • Place beans, onion, 1 cup hot water, cooked bacon, brown sugar, molasses,tomato paste, salt, dry mustard and pepper in a crock pot and
  • mix throrougly.
  • Simmer 10-12 hours on low setting.

1 (16 ounce) package dried navy beans
4 cups water, or more as needed
½ cup molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ pound salt pork, thinly sliced
1 onion, sliced

Steps:

  • Place the navy beans into a large container and cover with several inches of cool water; let stand 8 hours to overnight. Drain and transfer beans to a pot; add enough water to cover beans.
  • Bring water to a boil, reduce heat, cover pot, and simmer until beans are slightly tender, about 1 hour.
  • Mix 4 cups water, molasses, brown sugar, salt, mustard, and pepper together in a bowl until smooth.
  • Mix beans, salt pork, and onion together in a slow cooker. Add molasses mixture and more water to cover beans if needed; stir well.
  • Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours.
