1 tablespoon Spicy Salt, recipe follows
3 ounces tequila
2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur
1/4 cup kosher salt
Finely grated zest of one lime
1/4 teaspoon ancho chile powder
1/4 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
Combine the salt, lime zest, ancho chile powder and chipotle chile powder in a small bowl.
1 cup sugar
Combine the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. (Alternatively, heat in the microwave.) Let cool. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Steps:

  • Put the Spicy Salt on a plate. Dip the rim of a chilled margarita glass into the mixture to coat the edge. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, lime juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Strain the margarita into the prepared glass.

2 ounces simple syrup, plus more for the glasses
Coarse salt
4 cups ice
2 cups hulled and halved fresh strawberries, plus 2 strawberries, hulled and thinly sliced for garnish, optional
2 cups cubed fresh watermelon
4 ounces silver tequila
2 ounces fresh lime juice
2 ounces triple sec
1/2 Fresno chile, diced, seeded or unseeded depending on the spice level you want

Steps:

  • Dip half of the rim of 4 margarita glasses in the simple syrup, then dip in the coarse salt. Set aside.
  • In a blender, combine the ice, halved strawberries, watermelon, tequila, lime juice, triple sec, simple syrup and Fresno chile. Blend until frothy. Pour into your prepared margarita glasses, garnish each with a thinly sliced strawberry if desired and enjoy immediately!
