An easy and quick Spicy Prawn Curry Recipe Indian Style prepared with a very few ingredients & a perfect side dish to rice, roti or any Indian flatbread.

For Marination:
300 grams Prawns (shelled, de-veined and cleaned)
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
Salt to taste
For gravy:
1 Tablespoon Oil
1 Large Onion (finely chopped)
2 Green Chillies (finely chopped)
1 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Ginger Paste
A sprig of Curry leaves
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
1/4 teaspoon Garam masala Powder
Salt to taste
2 Tablespoon Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

Steps:

  • Take cleaned prawns in a bowl and marinate with ingredients under the section "For marination". Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onions and green chillies. Sauté till translucent.
  • Now add the ginger-garlic paste and curry leaves, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and mix well. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add the marinated prawns, required salt and mix well.
  • Cook on medium heat for 3 minutes.
  • Now add 1/2 cup of water and cook further covered for 5-7 minutes on medium heat.
  • Finally add garam masala powder, mix well. and turn off heat.
  • Garnish with coriander.serve hot with hot white rice, chapatis/rotis or any flat bread.

1 1/4 lbs medium raw shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails intact)
2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
2 teaspoons fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon garam masala
2 1/2 tablespoons canola oil
salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups basmati rice, uncooked
1 onion, peeled and thinly sliced
4 large tomatoes, finely chopped
1/2 cup Greek yogurt, plain
1/2 cup cilantro leaf, chopped

Steps:

  • Place prawns in a bowl with garlic, ginger, spices, 2 teaspoons oil and some salt and pepper. Stir well to coat, then cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, cook the rice according to packet instructions. Cover and keep warm.
  • Heat 1 tbs oil in a wok or frypan over medium-high heat. Add prawns and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until lightly golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add the remaining 1 tbs oil to the pan, reduce the heat to medium, then add onion and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the tomato, then cover and simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes until tomato is softened.
  • Return prawns to pan with yoghurt and cilantro, then warm through, stirring, for 1 minute.
  • Season to taste, then serve with rice.

2 tablespoons peanut oil
½ sweet onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon red chili powder
1 (14.5 ounce) can chopped tomatoes
1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 pound cooked and peeled shrimp
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat; cook the onion in the hot oil until translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat and allow it to cool slightly, about 2 minutes. Add the garlic, ginger, cumin, turmeric, paprika, and ground chile (see Note) to the onion and stir over low heat. Pour the tomatoes and coconut milk into the skillet; season with salt.
  • Cook the mixture at a simmer, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Stir the shrimp, fresh cilantro, and dried cilantro into the sauce mixture; cook another 1 minute before serving.
