Green beans are a reliable standby, but they can seem ordinary on their own. Just a couple of extra ingredients give them a sweet and salty attitude. This is definitely my family's favorite way to enjoy them. -Shannon Dobos, Calgary, Alberta

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed

Steps:

  • Whisk together first 5 ingredients; set aside. In a 6-qt. stockpot, bring 10 cups water to a boil. Add beans in batches; cook, uncovered, just until crisp-tender, 2-3 minutes. Remove beans and immediately drop into ice water. Drain and pat dry. , Coat stockpot with cooking spray. Add beans; cook, stirring constantly, over high heat until slightly blistered, 2-3 minutes. Add sauce; continue stirring until beans are coated and sauce starts to evaporate slightly, 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

I made these as an experiement one night and they turned out yummy. Brought them to camp the next day for lunch and they were even delicious right outta the cooler!

500 g green beans, whole
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 cup honey garlic sauce

Steps:

  • Boil beans until tender-crisp; approximately 10 min's. Drain and set aside with lid on.
  • In a fry pan heat oil (med-high) and add garlic, cook for 1 minute then toss in beans and coat. Cook & stir beans 4 minutes. Turn heat to medium, then add honey garlic sauce. Coat beans in sauce and continue cooking just till sauce is heated.
  • Serve hot or cold!
