Kahlua® Homemade image

This recipe I love to make around Thanksgiving to drink or give as presents at Christmastime. The longer you wait the better it is, try and wait 4 weeks. I got this recipe from one of my own concoctions from trying several different recipes.

If you are looking for a tasty homemade gift, a lower-cost version of the brand-name liqueur or just a fun cooking project, try making your own Kahlua at home. This easy to follow recipe produces a rich, velvety coffee-flavored elixir that is the main ingredient of drinks such as White Russians, Mudslides and Chunky Monkeys. Kahlua is also a delicious "on the rocks" drink, whether straight over ice or topped off with a little half-and-half cream. (From ehow.com)

HOMEMADE "BREWED" COFFEE KAHLUA

Homemade

My husband's family introduced me to this Kahlua recipe when we were first married and we have enjoyed it for many years during holidays and special occasions. Enjoy!

Categories     Hot Drinks

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 1/2 c strong freshly brewed coffee
4 c sugar
2 1/4 c good quality vodka
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 vanilla bean
OPTIONAL:
1 cinnamon stick
1 Tbsp orange peel

Steps:

  • 1. Brew a pot of strong, good quality coffee to get that rich Kahlua flavor. it should be strong because a weak coffee won't transport the flavors into the final product. Once brewed, prepare to use the coffee immediately.
  • 2. Once the pot is done, transfer it over to a large bowl. Add 4 cups of sugar and 1 Tablespoon of cocoa powder to the fresh, hot coffee and stir until dissolved.
  • 3. Let the coffee mixture cool to room temperature. Once the sugar and cocoa has dissolved and the coffee has cooled, add the vodka stirring to combine. Pour the mixture into bottles.
  • 4. Cut the vanilla bean into 3rds and drop one piece into each bottle. Put cap on. Your Kahlua is made. At this point you may add a cinnamon stick or orange peel if you like. This will give it a more dynamic flavor.
  • 5. Store in a cool, dry place for 2-3 weeks. The vanilla needs this much time to infuse and the flavors need to settle into the coffee to give it that rich, liqueur flavor.
  • 6. Once the time is up, strain it beforehand and then rebottle. Label and store in basement, cellar, or inside a closed box.

HOMEMADE KAHLUA RECIPE RECIPE - (4.3/5)

Homemade Kahlua Recipe Recipe - (4.3/5) image

Provided by jads8627

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups water
3 cups sugar
1/4 cups instant coffee granules
3 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
2 1/2 cups Vodka
Optional: 1 or 2 vanilla beans

Steps:

  • 1. Using a large pot, dissolve sugar into water over medium high heat. 2. Add instant coffee granules and bring mixture to boil. 3. Reduce heat to simmer. 4. Stir every 10-15 minutes as needed for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Mixture will be reduced to a liquid syrup. You may need to stir more frequently right at the end. 5. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes. 6. Stir in vanilla and allow to cool another 15 - 30 minutes. 7. Stir in vodka. Note: No worries if mixture has crystallized a little, the vodka will break it back down as long is it is still partial liquid. If you allow it to cool too long it will harden too much. If this happens, simply reheat the syrup and add vodka when it's somewhat cooled down but not hard. 8. For gift giving, pour your homemade liqueur into pretty bottles and keep out of direct light by using brown or green glass or by wrapping in a cloth. Optional: A vanilla bean in the bottle can add a classy and flavorful touch. For more vanilla flavor, cut vanilla bean in half lengthwise. Tip: This liqueur tastes best when left in a cool dark place for a couple weeks or even better... months. It also gets smoother with age. It can be kept in the fridge but does not have to be.

HOMEMADE KAHLUA

Homemade Kahlua image

This is a recipe that I found a while back for homemade Kahlua. This one is a little more "vanilla-y" than the others that I have tried. It makes A LOT, so it's great for gifts. It does need to sit for 12 hours but then it is totally drinkable (trust me, I've tried it). I use Svedka vodka and it comes out great. I would also use real vanilla, not the extract.

HOMEMADE KAHLUA RECIPE

Homemade Kahlua Recipe image

Provided by micpad

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound fine-ground espresso
7 or more cups boiling water (to yield 7 cups brewed espresso)
4 cups honey
4 cups white sugar
4 vanilla beans, split and scraped
1 750 ml bottle vodka or 1/2 fifth of Everclear

Steps:

  • Divide ground coffee into four equal parts. Put 1/4 pound of coffee into a filter set in a filter cone over a carafe or other large vessel. Slowly moisten grounds with boiling water. Pour remainder of the two cups of water through the grounds. Let all of the water drip through. Throw out the filter and wet grounds. Fill another filter with 1/4 pound of coffee and place in cone over another vessel. (Placing the cone in a colander set over a large glass measuring cup works well). Pour the previously brewed coffee over the fresh grounds. Follow with two cups of boiling water. (Pouring the brewed coffee through the grounds increases the coffee flavor.) Repeat this process two more times until all of the coffee is gone. You want to have 7 cups of brewed espresso. Pour the brewed espresso into a heavy, four-quart saucepan. Add the scraped vanilla beans and the pods, along with the honey and sugar. Stir the mixture over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered for 20 minutes. Simmer uncovered for another 25 minutes. Remove from heat and cool completely to room temperature, about two hours. When the mixture is cool, pour in the vodka or Everclear. Pour the coffee liqueur into clean bottles. Yield: About 3/4 gallon

HOMEMADE KAHLUA IN 20 MINUTES OR LESS

Homemade Kahlua in 20 Minutes or Less image

I've been making this for a long time now. It's closer to Kamora than Kahlua but for the time and cost, give it a try at least once. I think you'll be very surprised at how good it is! Sept. 2014: I discovered Kahlua is rum based so, try substituting rum for the vodka. I also realized brown sugar was white sugar with molasses added, so I now use 1 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon molasses.

Provided by Rich Mann

Categories     Beverages

Time 20m

Yield 750 ml, 17 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups fresh brewed strong coffee
1 cup brown sugar, or
1 cup sugar, and
1 tablespoon molasses
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup of a clean tasting vodka

Steps:

  • Brew up 3 cups of your favorite coffee, make it strong, preferably in a standard drip coffee maker.
  • Remove from the coffee maker and add the brown sugar (or sugar/molasses combo) right in the coffee pot. It will dissolve quicker while the coffee is hot, of course. Once the sugar is dissolved, throw in a couple of ice cubes to cool it down quicker.
  • Finally, add the vanilla and vodka.
  • That's all there is to it. Use immediately or let it set a while. You'll have enough to fill a 750 ml bottle.
