Poor Man's Hamburger Steaks image

An old fashioned hamburger steak recipe topped with cream of mushroom. Serve with some warm mashed potatoes and your favorite green vegetable. Our family loves this. Makes a great cheap meal!

3 pounds ground beef
25 saltine crackers, crushed
1 cup milk
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
3 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (8 ounce) can mushrooms, drained

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, crackers, milk, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Form 6 or 8 large beef patties, and place in a 9x13 inch baking dish, or other shallow casserole dish. Pour the condensed soup evenly over the top of the patties, and sprinkle canned mushrooms over the top. Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until beef patties are well done.

I love this dish. It is rich but a very yummy comfort food. Super easy.

2 lb ground beef
1 egg
1 pkg mccormick hamburger seasoning or any seasoning you like i have also used emerils
1 1/2 c bread crumbs
2 lb potatoes
1 medium onion
2 pkg brown gravy mix
1 stick butter
1 c half and half
1 tsp black pepper

Steps:

  • 1. peal and cube potatoes, rinse and boil until folk tender
  • 2. in a bowl add hamburger, egg, seasoning, bread crumbs. mix and shape into desired patties.
  • 3. Cook the patties in a skillet, slice onions and add to patties. Cook until onion are browned and tender.
  • 4. mix gravy mix in cold water and add to skillet, turn down and simmer 10 mins while preparing potatoes.
  • 5. Drain potatoes, mash with butter, black pepper and half and half. Add more half and half if needed.
  • 6. in single serving plates add potatoes, and hamburger patty with gravy. Enjoy :-D

An easy-to-make classic featuring tasty hamburger 'steaks' smothered in gravy and onions. Traditionally served with hot white rice or potatoes, it's a great way to dress up a pound of ground beef and you probably have all the ingredients on hand!

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
¼ cup bread crumbs
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon seasoned salt
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced onion
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon cooking sherry
½ teaspoon seasoned salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 balls, and flatten into patties.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Gradually mix in the beef broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.
