We've all heard of the health benefits of green tea these day, haven't we? Yes we have...thus I will dare to rationalize my little cocktail as being healthy in my mind! LOL. The flavor of the green tea is apt to get lost with the strong flavors of the rum and lime so resist the urge to add more of these ingredients. I recommend Tazo Zen Green tea blend as I think it has enough umph to stand on its own here. Original idea came from the Mellow Monk. Adapted to suit my tastes.

1/2 lime, juice of
6 large mint leaves
2/3 cup brewed green tea
1 -1 1/2 ounce white rum
1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Pour the lime juice into a highball glass.
  • Add the mint and crush with a spoon. (If using sugar, you may want to muddle the sugar and mint before adding the lime juice).
  • Fill a glass with ice and add the tea and rum.
  • Stir well and garnish with a mint leaf, if desired.

8 Large fresh mint leaves, plus more for serving
1 cup ice
3 ounces Lamill Coffee Green Mystique Tea (brewed in advance in a 17-ounce tea pot, 2 teaspoons/10 g tea, steep for 3 1/2 minutes)
1 1/2 ounces (3 tablespoons) freshly squeezed lime juice
3 ounces simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, then cooled)
2 ounces club soda

Steps:

  • Muddle mint leaves and ice in a cocktail shaker. Add green tea, lime juice and simple syrup into the shaker and shake well. Pour into a glass and top off with club soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Serve with a big smile!

1 cup very strongly brewed gunpowder tea
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 ounces white rum (I prefer gin, which works just as well)
3/4 ounce simple syrup
sparkling water
1 dash bitters
2 sprigs mint
ice cube

Steps:

  • For the syrup:.
  • In a medium sauce pan, combine two ingredients and stir over medium heat until sugar has dissolved. Bring tea mixture to a light boil. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced to a half of the original amount to create a syrup. This will take 15 minutes or more, depending how thick you want your syrup. Let cool.
  • For the drink:.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine rum, simple syrup, bitters, and a sprig of mint. Shake well. Pour into your glass (with or without ice cubes) and top with sparkling water. Garnish with a sprig of mint and enjoy.
