Cookies are rolled in crushed corn flakes and topped with a quarter of a maraschino cherry.

¾ cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
⅓ cup maraschino cherries, chopped
2 ½ cups crushed cornflakes cereal
10 maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  • Cream the shortening with the sugar. Blend in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries.
  • Shape teaspoonful sized chunks of dough into balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes. Place balls on the prepared baking sheets and top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.

These crispy cookies provide a nice change of pace from the traditional chocolate chip, sugar and peanut butter cookies. The cornflakes give them a tasty coating.

3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries
1-3/4 cups finely crushed cornflakes
30 to 34 maraschino cherries, halved

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the pecans, dates and chopped cherries. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes., Shape dough into 1-in. balls; roll in cornflakes. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets; press a cherry half into center of each. , Bake at 350° for 14-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.

This was my g.mothers recipe. As a child I always looked forward to her special cookies. She is now in a nursing home n' couldn't tell you how to make them.. but I feel very blessed to share them w/ everyone.

3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 c all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c pecans, in pieces (small)
1 c maraschino cherries (red)
1/2 c coconut, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. mix first 5 ing. together
  • 2. mix the next 4 together
  • 3. mix steps 1 n' 2 together
  • 4. mix in remaining ing. ( make sure each cherry is cut into 4's )
  • 5. drop by the tsp. onto lightly greased cookie sheet 2inches apart
  • 6. bake @ 375 for 10-12 minutes
  • 7. MAKE SURE YOUR COOKIES ARE COMPLETELY COOLED BEFORE PUTTING THEM AWAY..THEY WILL MOLD IF NOT COOLED COMP.

This recipe uses a make ahead mix that can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks. Add the ingredients listed below to the mix for Cherry Winks!

2 cups Make Ahead Cookie Mix
½ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup raisins
¼ cup maraschino cherries, chopped
24 maraschino cherries, halved

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine 2 cups of Make Ahead Cookie Mix with white sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla. Add nuts if desired. Stir in raisins and chopped maraschino cherries.
  • Shape dough into balls. Press half of a Maraschino cherry into each cookie and bake 11-16 minutes.

This is a recipe of my Grandma Robinson's, that she typed on a postcard when she lived in Monee, Illinois. Robin texted it to me 10-18-20.

2 1/2 c flour
1 tsp powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 c pecans
1 c dates
1/3 c maraschino cherries
2 1/2 c cornflakes

Steps:

  • 1. Mix well and drop by tsp on a greased cookie sheet for 12-15 min in a 375 degree oven.
