1/2 cup quaker old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon molasses
1 few shakes ground ginger
1 few shakes ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
1 dash vanilla extract
1 few dashes kosher salt

Steps:

  • In a small pot, heat oatmeal, skim milk, and water over medium heat. As oatmeal mixture is warming, add all the other ingredients. Stir thoroughly to combine. Let cook until most of the liquid is absorbed, and the oatmeal reaches ... y'know ... an oatmealy consistency. Serve warm.

This recipe and picture comes from the web site Prevention. I need to lower my cholesterol and was searching for breakfast ideas when I found this recipe. Simple and looks delicious and one I could enjoy in the morning. No more plain oatmeal! Glad to share this one.

½ c apple juice
¼ c water
¼ c oats(quick cooking steel cut oats)
1 gingersnap, roughly broken
1 tbsp chopped pecans

Steps:

  • 1. BRING the apple juice and water to a boil in a small, heavy saucepan.
  • 2. ADD the oats, reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered 5 minutes, stirring often.
  • 3. REMOVE from heat and let stand 2 minutes.
  • 4. SPOON into a serving bowl and sprinkle with gingersnap pieces and chopped pecans.
  • 5. GARNISH with fresh fruit if desired. Serves 1.
