3 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 shallot, finely chopped
6 garlic cloves, minced
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, bring 10 cups water to a boil. Add green beans; cook, uncovered, 6-8 minutes or until tender. , Meanwhile, in a small skillet, heat oils over medium heat. Add shallot, garlic, salt and pepper; cook and stir 2-3 minutes or until tender., Drain green beans and return to Dutch oven. Add shallot mixture; toss to coat. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

These Asian-inspired green beans have a hint of heat and come together in mere minutes. These will come out al dente; if you prefer your beans softer, cook for an extra 2 minutes before adding in the sauce.

1 tablespoon mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons sesame chili oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon peanut oil
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
salt to taste

Steps:

  • Combine mirin, soy sauce, sesame chili oil, garlic, and sesame seeds in a small bowl. Set sauce aside.
  • Heat peanut oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add green beans and saute for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Add in sauce and lower heat to medium. Continue cooking until beans have reached the desired doneness, 4 to 5 minutes more. Season with salt, if desired, before serving.

2 small green peppers such as jalapeno or serrano, stems and seeds removed, minced
2 teaspoons turmeric powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
1 pound green beans, tough ends removed
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons sesame seeds

  • Remove from the heat and adjust seasoning, to taste.

Spicy Garlic Green Beans image

This is a great dish we have at a local chinese restaurant that I came home and played with. They're an excellent side dish. I store some thai peppers in oil that I use in place of the olive oil but regular olive oil is fine. This recipe is great if you cube up a chicken breast into 1/2" cubes and add it also.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons sesame oil
4 -6 garlic cloves, finely chopped, divided
1/2-1 lb green beans, fresh
1/2 teaspoon dried hot peppers, finely diced or 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
1 dash kosher salt

Steps:

  • Wash and cut stems off green beans. Heat up skillet with 2 T olive oil. When hot toss in half the garlic. Just as it starts to pop add sesame oil and green beans and toss until lightly coated. As green beans warm up add soy and pepper flakes. Toss lightly and cover over med-low heat until green beans are tender.
  • When green beans are tender and almost ready, add remaining garlic, salt to taste and continue to cook until garlic is toasty.
  • Remove and serve hot.
