1/2 cup hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425F Put chicken in shallow baking dish lined with foil.
  • Stir together the hoisin sauce, salt, pepper and the Chinese five-spice powder.
  • Brush the mixture over the chicken pieces.
  • Bake in upper third of oven until skin browned and chicken is cooked through, approx 30-40 minutes.

You could use broccoli here if preferred instead of bok choy. This is a great all in one pan dish that can be brought straight to the table for serving.

1 tablespoon sunflower oil
2 chicken breasts, thinly sliced
One 2-centimeter (3/4-inch) piece of fresh ginger, peeled
3 celery sticks
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 bok choy
Small handful coriander

Steps:

  • Have a large wok or frying pan hot over a high heat Add the oil to the pan followed by the chicken and fry for a minute, tossing to coat in the oil and to color on each side. While the chicken is cooking grate the ginger, thinly slice the celery and add to the chicken, cook for another minute.
  • Roughly chop the bok choy and add it to the pan along with the hoisin sauce, ketchup, soy and Chinese five-spice. Add a splash of water and cook, stirring, for another minute. Serve with a sprinkle of coriander leaves

4 (1/2 lb) chicken legs (about 2 lb/1 kg)
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder

Steps:

  • Remove skin and any fat from chicken. In small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, ketchup, garlic, rice vinegar, soy sauce and five-spice powder.
  • Place chicken on foil-lined rimmed baking sheet; spread half of the sauce over chicken.
  • Bake in 400°F (200°C) oven for 30 minutes. Spread with remaining sauce; bake until juices run clear when chicken is pierced, about 20 minutes.

1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
2 teaspoons dark sesame oil
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
4 (6 ounce) boneless skinless chicken breast halves
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat broiler.
  • While the broiler heats, combine the hoisin, honey, vinegar, and oil in a small saucepan; bringing to a boil over medium-high heat. Combine cornstarch and water; add to hoisin mixture, stirring with whisk. Bring to a boil; cook 1 minute stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  • Combine salt and next 4 ingredients (salt through five-spice powder); rub evenly over both sides of chicken. Place chicken on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray, and broil 5 minutes. Brush with hoisin mixture; broil 4 minutes or until done, basting frequently with hoisin mixture.
