Homemade Espresso Sugar Cubes image

Making your own sugar cubes is economical and fun, plus they make great homemade gifts! Wrap them in a cellophane bag tied with a pretty ribbon and you'll delight every coffee and tea drinker you know.

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups white sugar
2 tablespoons brewed espresso, or as needed
1 ½ tablespoons water
1 ½ tablespoons instant espresso powder

Steps:

  • Stir sugar, espresso, water, and espresso powder together in a bowl with a fork until all the liquid is incorporated and the mixture has the consistency of wet sand. Pour mixture onto a baking sheet.
  • Press sugar mixture by hand into a firmly-packed rectangle. Straighten the sides of the rectangle with a dough cutter or metal spatula. Cut mixture into small cubes and spread cubes slightly apart on the baking sheet. Dry cubes at room temperature until set, about 24 hours.

Makes great gifts! Give it a try in splenda if you prefer. I am not one for artificial sweetenersbut if you prefer try it I'd love to know what you think.

1 -2 tablespoon lemon zest (your favorite citrus, 1/2 inch piece) or 1 -2 tablespoon lime zest (your favorite citrus, 1/2 inch piece)
7 cups sugar, about (or try it in splenda)

Steps:

  • Put sugar into Jars.
  • Place vanilla bean, Star Anise,Cinnamon sticks, Cloves, Fennel, Cardamon, Citrus Zest and or herbs into Jars.
  • You can put individually or mix and match your spices.
  • Tightly close and store a week or more.
  • Use as you wish!

This is another that I had put away and forgotten about. I like the cinnamon-ginger. These are good any time of year if you like flavored coffee or tea!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise (for Vanilla Bean)
1 candy cane, broken into pieces (for Peppermint Stick)
2 tablespoons dried lavender (for Lovely Lavender)
2 tablespoons crystallized ginger, and
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for Cinnamon- Ginger)
2 cups sugar, for each flavor

Steps:

  • Vanilla Bean -- Add 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, to 2 cups sugar, store 1 week before using.
  • Peppermint Stick -- In a food processor, combine 2 cups sugar and 1 candy cane or use any peppermint candy, broken into pieces, store 2 days before using.
  • Lovely Lavender -- Tie 2 tablespoons dried lavender in cheesecloth.Add it to 2 cups sugar, store 2 weeks before using.
  • Cinnamon- Ginger -- In food processor, combine 2 cups sugar, 2 Tblsp. crystallized ginger and 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon, process, store 1 week before using.
