Yummy and reminds me of Grandma's House at Christmas. Many recipes are similar to this one but this one is the best by far. You can use all butter but the shortening helps to brown and crisp the shortbread shell.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chilled butter, diced
1/4 cup shortening, diced
2 egg yolks, beaten
4 -5 granny smith apples, peeled,cored and cut into slices
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Sift four, 1/2 cup sugar and salt into a large bowl.
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Fold in egg yolks (mixture will be crumbly).
  • Remove 1/4 of mixture, and set aside.
  • Press remainder onto bottom and sides an 8" tart shell or pie pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Place apples into crust, and sprinkle reserved crumb mixture evenly over top.
  • Place pie on a baking sheet, and bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to 350° and continue baking 20 minutes, or until top is golden brown and filling is bubbling.

1 sheet refrigerated pie pastry
2 medium tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon plus 1/2 cup sugar, divided
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons beaten egg

Steps:

  • Cut pastry sheet in half. Repackage and refrigerate one half for another use. On a lightly floured surface, roll out remaining half into an 8-in. circle. Transfer to a 7-in. pie plate; flute edges., In a large bowl, combine the apples, 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon; place in crust. In a small bowl, combine the flour, walnuts, raisins, butter, egg and remaining sugar; spoon over top. Bake at 350° for 50-55 minutes or until topping is golden brown and fruit is tender, covering edges with foil to prevent overbrowning if necessary. Cool on a wire rack.

I have not made this pie but this sounds delicious. I plan on making this for Easter dinner, I can't wait. Just the thought of apple pie sounds great but then throw in the raisins.....superb. Let me know what you think, I know I can't wait.

2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 cups apples, peeled and cored
1/2 cup raisins
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 (9 inch) pastry for double-crust pie
1 tablespoon margarine

Steps:

  • Mix first 3 ingredients.
  • Toss with apples and lemon juice.
  • Add raisins.
  • Toss again.
  • Place in pastry lined pie plate.
  • Dot with margarine.
  • Cover with top crust.
  • Seal and flute edge.
  • Cut slits in top.
  • Bake at 425 for 50 munutes until browned.

2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter, cut into pieces
2 egg yolks, beaten
1 1/4 lbs golden delicious apples, peeled,cored and cut into 1/4 inch thick slices
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400-degrees F.
  • In a food processor blend flour, sugar and salt. Add butter through food tube using on/off turns until coarse meal forms. Drizzle egg yolks over dough and mix until dough forms using on/off turns. DO NOT FORM INTO A BALL.
  • Pat 3/4 of the dough into a 8-inch round tart pan (with removable bottom) or an 8-inch round cake pan. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl mix apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Turn apple mixture into crust.
  • Crumble remaining crust mixture over apples.
  • Place pie on baking sheet in oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to 350-degrees F and bake another 20 minutes or until top is light brown and filling is bubbly.
  • Cool at least 30 minutes before serving.

This is my mother's apple pie. This is the recipe I use all the time and I love it. I also use a dash of nutmeg so if you wish you can put that in too.

6 cups thinly sliced apples
¾ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 recipe pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie

Steps:

  • Prepare your pastry for a two crust pie. Wipe, quarter, core, peel, and slice apples; measure to 6 cups.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon. The amount of sugar used depends on how tart your apples are.
  • Arrange apples in layers in pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle each layer with sugar and cinnamon. Dot top layer with small pieces of butter or margarine. Cover with top crust.
  • Place on lowest rack in oven preheated to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes longer. Serve warm or cold.
