My all-time favorite side dish! A very simple copy of Famous Dave's® delicious Drunkin' Apples!

7 Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced
2 cups white sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
¼ cup spiced rum

Steps:

  • Stir apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a large saucepan. Pour rum into apple mixture and stir until apples are evenly coated and a thick sauce forms.
  • Bring apple mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook, stirring frequently, until apples are soft, about 20 minutes. Cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

This is a recipe I found that is supposed to be close to the side from Famous Dave's BBQ -- I just ADORED these apples with ribs...and I know they work well with ham dishes for holidays!! *recipe untried by me yet, hope it is close to them!! Yield is a guess.

24 granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into semicircles
3 -4 cups white sugar
4 tablespoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup rum

Steps:

  • Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Mix in rum.
  • Heat over medium heat until apple mixture is juicy and the juice boils.
  • Boil for 20 minutes over medium heat.
  • Enjoy! :).

24 halvarson apples (approx.)
2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Mix in rum.
  • Heat over medium heat until apple mixture is juicy and the juice boils.
  • Boil for 20" over medium heat.
  • Ladle into canning jars when complete and seal.
  • Enjoy as desired - should be great warmed over vanilla ice cream, pound cake or angel food with a nice whipped cream, or as a side with bbq ribs or baked ham at the holidays!

The kids love this recipe! It goes well with a savory dinner of ribs, corn bread, etc., OR with French Toast!

1 Tbsp butter
2 large tart apples - peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4-inch thick (we like granny smith)
1 tsp cornstarch
1/4 c cold water
1/4 c brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet or saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; add apples. Cook, stirring constantly, until apples are almost tender, about 6 - 7 minutes.
  • 2. Dissolve cornstarch in water; add to skillet. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and serve warm. :)

6 Tbsp granulated sugar
1/2 lemon
1 cinnamon stick, approximately 1 inch
4 oz burbon, good quality
vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • 1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, the rind and juice of half a lemon, cinnamon stick, and bourbon.
  • 2. Place the pan directly over a flame and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • 3. Place apples in the pan. Cover and simmer until the apples are tender, about 30 minutes.
  • 4. Serve the apples with the hot sauce over vanilla ice cream.
