3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chilled butter, cut into small bits
1 1/4 cups frozen sour cherries, thawed and drained
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt or 1 cup buttermilk
4 tablespoons turbinado sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • In medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Cut butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles a coarse meal.
  • Add cherries and chips and mix well.
  • Make a well in center of mixture and pour in yogurt (or buttermilk).
  • Mix ingredients into a soft, slightly wet dough.
  • Cut dough in half.
  • Take half of dough and turn dough out onto lightly floured work surface. Shape into a ball and roll to a circle roughly 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick.
  • Cut into 8 wedges. Place each wedge onto a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Repeat with other half of dough.
  • Sprinkle wedges with turbinado sugar.
  • Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling

Steps:

  • Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, stirring after each. Add flour and vanilla, mix well.
  • Spread 3/4 batter into greased 9x13 pan, cover with cherry pie filling, and drop remaining batter by spoonfuls over the pie filling.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still hot.

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling (2 if you like cherries)
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Beat in extracts. In a separate bowl combine flour and salt. Add to the creamed mixture. Mix until combined.Spread 3 cups batter into a greased 15x10x1-in baking pan (Also works with 9x13 - baking time will be at least 35 minutes). Spread with pie filling. Drop the remaining batter by teaspoonfuls over pie filling. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Combine glaze ingredients, and drizzle over cooled bars.

KAY'S CHERRY BOUNCE

Kay lived in Door County and would make this every year from the cherries grown there. Warning - It is strong and the cherries will get you bouncing before the booze will!

8 cups tart cherries, with the pits
1 3/4 liters liquor (Vodka, Brandy, Whiskey etc.)
2 cups sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Dissolve the sugar in the water.
  • Mix the sugar water and liquor together in a glass gallon jug.
  • Screw on the lid and store in a dark, dry place for about six months.
  • Note: We make this when the cherries ripen and are available, then we let it sit in the dark until Christmas.
  • Also, you can buy the cheapest booze available as the cherries will change the flavor anyway.
