The smell you'll wake up to in the morning from this crockpot oatmeal is the best ever! I know you can cook delicious oatmeal in a pot in the morning, but you miss out on the glorious smell! Plus, having one less thing to do in the morning is always a good thing :)

APPLE CINNAMON CROCKPOT OATMEAL

Apple Cinnamon Crockpot Oatmeal image

We are not ones to cook a big breakfast in our house, so what we usually have is something very easy or a smoothie. This is a very easy, filling, and healthy breakfast. My husband especially loves this one because it is so hearty. Be sure not to substitute for any other kind of oatmeal. ONLY STEEL CUT OATMEAL will do.

Time 8h20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 c water
1 c milk
1 stick butter, room temperature
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 - 1 c packed brown sugar, to taste
2 tsp vanilla
4 tart baking apples, peeled and chopped
1 c raisins (optional)
2 c steel cut oatmeal,( i use mccaan's)
1 c chopped pecans, walnuts, or sliced almonds (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Spray the inside of your crockpot with cooking spray.
  • 2. Stir together chopped apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl. When apples are evenly coated, put the mixture into the crock pot.
  • 3. Add water, milk, butter, vanilla, oats and the raisins (optional). If I am using walnuts or pecans, I add them at this time. If using almonds, wait until you are almost ready to serve. (All nuts are optional.) Stir well.
  • 4. Put the lid on your crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours or overnight. If using almonds, I add them as soon as I get up and then let cook while I get the coffee made.
  • 5. You may sprinkle the top of the oatmeal with more nuts and brown sugar before serving. This is delish. Hope you enjoy!

CROCKPOT OATMEAL

There is never anything left! I think if the kids could fit their head's in the crockpot they would lick it clean!!

Categories     Fruit Breakfast

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 cup(s) oats/ steel cut oats
3 1/3 cup(s) liquid

Steps:

  • Cook on low for 8 hours. These are the basic ingredients, I say "liquid" because I use the juice from canned fruits as part of the "water" in this recipe! The picture shown is cinnamon maple cranberry. I made this with dried cranberries, all the liquid was water, I just added some maple and brown sugar to sweeten a little! You can add dried fruits & nuts, any canned fruit works great, fresh fruit, Ive even made it with diced winter squash! (shhh dont tell the kids!) this is a wonderful, filling recipe you can do nearly anything with! I Love the creativity with this one! Hope you enjoy!

CROCKPOT STEEL CUT OATMEAL

Crockpot Steel Cut Oatmeal image

Be sure to use "Steel Cut" oats, not the Old Fashioned or Quick Cook kind. Steel Cut oats are much better for you and do a better job at lowering Cholesterol. :)

Time 8h10m

Number Of Ingredients 17

MAIN INGREDIENTS
6 c water
3 c milk (or you can use all 9 cups of water)
2 1/4 c steel cut oats **
1 tsp salt
4-6 Tbsp butter, unsalted
OPTIONAL INGREDIENT SUGGESTIONS
raisins
honey
sugar
brown sugar
nuts
milk
molasses
bananas
fresh fruit or berries, in season
chocolate syrup or chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. ** Be sure to use "Steel Cut" oats, not the Old Fashioned or Quick Cook kind.
  • 2. Spray inside of 6 quart crock with non-stick cooking spray (This will make cleaning the crock much easier!) You can of course cut this recipe in half, or less, and use a smaller crock.
  • 3. Add in the oats, water, milk (if using), salt & butter. You can add in other ingredients as you like, but I would suggest holding the raisins until about 1 hour before it finishes. Otherwise they get quite mushy.
  • 4. Cook on LOW for 8 hours, or overnight, OR on HIGH for 4-6 hours. (Cook for less time if using a smaller crock). Stir & serve. We always make ours plain and let everyone add their own ingredients to make it as they like it.
  • 5. You can ladle the oats into single serving containers (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup servings - this is quite filling) and keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. In the morning, simply take out a serving and heat in the microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, or until hot. Add any extra ingredients you like.
