Steps:
- Mix all ingredients except ham in 4- to 5-quart slow cooker. Add ham.
- Cover and cook on Low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until peas are tender.
- Remove ham from cooker; place on cutting board. Pull meat from bones, using 2 forks; discard bones and skin. Stir ham into soup. Stir well before serving.

Steps:
- Place the split peas in a colander. Rinse them well and pick through for any tiny pebbles or debris.
- In the base of a slow-cooker, combine the peas, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, ham, chicken stock and 1 1/2 cups of water. Tie the sprigs of thyme, parsley and the bay leaf together with a piece of kitchen twine, wrapped around the bundle a couple times, then add to the slow-cooker.
- Cover and cook on high heat for 4-5 hours, or low heat for 8-10 hours, until the peas are tender and have split to thicken the soup. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve topped with chopped parsley.

Easy and delicious! Very thick and hearty! Freezes well! (I always make a double batch and freeze 2/3.) Update: If you overcook, the soup will get even thicker than usual! and turn a little bit of an olive drab color--it will still taste good though!

- In a 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the broth, ham hocks, vegetables, split peas and bay leaves. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until ham hocks and peas are tender. , Discard bay leaves. Remove meat from bones when cool enough to handle; cut ham into small pieces and set aside. Cool soup slightly. , In a blender, cover and process soup in batches until smooth. - Pick over peas and rinse well.
- In a gallon size freezer zipper bag, combine ham bone, split peas and chopped onions, carrots and celery.
- In a snack sized zipper bag sized bag, combine bay leaf, peeled bouillon cubes, garlic powder and pepper.
- Squeeze out as much air from both of the bags as possible.
- Include all ingredients in a 2 gallon size freezer bag and include the following directions:.
- Place contents of ham and peas bag and seasonings bag into crock pot.
- Cover with 1.5 - 2 quart of water.
- Cook on high for 4-6 hours.
- Serve with croutons.
