This is a nice fudgie cake for dessert. The cake can stand while you are whipping up a quick main course eg a grill and salad.

1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 1/2 cups hot water
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Spray inside of 2- 3 1/2 quart crock with cooking spray.
  • Mix flour, sugar, 2 TBS cocoa, baking powder and salt in medium bowl.
  • Stir in milk, oil and vanilla until smooth.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Spread batter evenly in slow cooker.
  • Mix brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa in small bowl.
  • Stir in hot water until smooth.
  • Pour evenly over batter in crock.
  • Cover and cook on high 2- 2 1/2 hours or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Turn off crock.
  • Let cake stand uncovered 30- 40 minutes to cool slightly before serving.
  • Spoon warm cake into dessert dishes.
  • Spoon sauce over top.
  • 6 servings.

My big brother Bo the crock pot king made this recipe recently. I took an itty bitty taste and told him I have to post this for my friends at Recipezaar! Bo's motto is: "All roads lead to crock pots." This is ooey-gooey chocolate decadence. Bo added the baking square and nuts. From Fix It and Forget It Cookbook for Crock Pot Cooking. *Note*: please use a 1.5 or 3-quart sized crock pot but no larger to prepare this recipe.

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 ounce baking chocolate square, cut into fourths
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped (optional)
1 3/4 cups boiling water
vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together 1 cup brown sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Stir in the milk, melted butter and vanilla.
  • Place the baking chocolate square pieces on bottom of crock pot.
  • Spread the brown sugar/cocoa mixture over the bottom of the crock pot.
  • In another bowl, mix together 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle over the mixture in the crock pot. Add nuts if using.
  • Pour in the boiling water. DO NOT stir mixture.
  • Cover crock pot and cook on HIGH 2-3 hours or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
  • Serve hot fudge cake warm with vanilla ice cream.

2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

2 c brownie mix
1 egg
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 c water
1/3 c chocolate chips
topping *************************************
1/2 c brown sugar
2 Tbsp baking cocoa
3/4 c boiling water

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all bottom layer ingredients in bowl. Spread into greased 3 1/2 quart slow cooker. Mix together topping ingredients, completely dissolving cocoa and sugar in boiling water.   • Spray a 2-3 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. In a bowl, sift together flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Then stir in milk, oil and vanilla extract. Give it all a good stir until combined, then fold in nuts (if using). Spread batter evenly into your slow cooker. In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar and remaining cocoa powder. Stir in hot water until smooth. Pour evenly over batter in slow cooker. DO NOT STIR. Cover and cook on high setting for 2-2 1/2 hours To test if it is done, stick a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean (with no cake batter hanging on it), then it is done. Let cake stand, uncovered for 30-40 minutes before serving.
