BAKED WONTON CHIPS

If you are looking for a quick and easy snack, these wonton chips are for you! These homemade chips are baked in the oven and you can customize them with your favorite seasonings.

25 wonton wrappers (each cut into 4 triangles)
Canola or vegetable oil
Flakes sea salt (and/or other favorite seasonings)

Steps:

  • Adjust oven racks to upper-middle and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 400°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment.
  • Place the cut wonton wrappers on the baking sheets and brush both sides of the wonton wrappers very lightly with oil.
  • Lightly sprinkle the top-side of the wrappers with flaked sea salt.
  • Place one baking sheet in the middle of each rack and cook 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes, set the bottom tray on the upper-middle rack and the set the upper tray on the lower-middle rack, and rotate each tray from front to back.
  • Bake an additional 5-10 minutes or until the chips are light golden brown.
  • Set sheets on a cooling rack and carefully transfer the chips to a different baking sheet or serving tray.
  • Reload the trays with additional wonton wrappers (if necessary) and repeat the process.
  • Keep in an airtight container up to 1 week.
  • Enjoy!

12 to 16 wonton wrappers (3-inch squares)
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Arrange the wonton wrappers on a rimmed baking sheet, making sure they don't touch. Brush tops with oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake until golden brown, 7 to 9 minutes. Transfer wonton crisps to a wire rack, and let cool before serving.

salt or your favorite spices (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray 1 or 2 baking sheets with nonstick spray.
  • Cut each wonton wrapper to make 4 triangles.
  • Place in a single layer on baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with salt to taste.
  • Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until crisp and golden.
  • These will keep for a week or two in an airtight container.
  • If desired, reheat for 4 or 5 minutes at 350 degrees before serving.

I love this creamy, tangy, savory crab rangoon dip with sweet chili sauce and cool crunch of green onion, and when served on the super crunchy and salty wonton chips... watch out! Fun twist to a familiar favorite.

1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced, divided
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 ½ cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
8 ounces imitation crabmeat
2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 2-quart or 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • Reserve 1 tablespoon green onions for garnish. Combine the remaining onions with cream cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, Sriracha, soy sauce, lemon zest, and lemon juice and stir until well blended. Fold in crabmeat and pour mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly, about 20 minutes. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle with sweet chili sauce and sprinkle with reserved green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
  • While dip bakes, heat oil in a medium saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Fry 5 to 6 pieces of wonton at a time in batches, flipping several times throughout, until golden, bubbly, and crisp, about 30 seconds. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle immediately with salt. Repeat with remaining wontons and serve immediately with dip. (Alternatively, these chips could be made the day before, cooled completely, and stored in airtight containers).

1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 pound extra-lean ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup egg substitute
1-1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 package (12 ounces) wonton wrappers
Cooking spray
Sweet-and-sour sauce, optional

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook the pork, turkey and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in the water chestnuts, soy sauce, egg substitute and ginger., Position a wonton wrapper with one point toward you. (Keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp paper towel until ready to use.) Place 2 heaping teaspoons of filling in the center of wrapper. Fold bottom corner over filling; fold sides toward center over filling. Roll toward the remaining point. Moisten top corner with water; press to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling., Place on baking sheets coated with cooking spray; lightly coat wontons with additional cooking spray. , Bake at 400° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. Serve warm, with sweet-and-sour sauce if desired. Freeze option: Freeze cooled baked wontons in a freezer container, separating layers with waxed paper.
