Winter's a perfect time to cozy up with a hot drink-and this glogg is our family favorite. It's heady with spices and full of cranberry flavor.-June Lindquist, Hammond, WI

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 cups cranberry juice
2 cups ruby port wine or grape juice
1 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup sugar
2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
4 cardamom pods, crushed
6 whole cloves
Additional cinnamon sticks, optional

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the cranberry juice, wine, raisins and sugar. Place the cinnamon, cardamom and cloves on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag. Add to the pan., Bring just to a simmer (do not boil). Reduce heat; simmer gently, uncovered, for 15 minutes or until flavors are blended. Discard spice bag. Serve warm in mugs with additional cinnamon if desired.

8 cups cranberry-apple juice cocktail
7 cups dry red wine (ex. burgundy)
1/2 cup sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
8 whole cloves
orange peel strips

Steps:

  • Combine first 5 ingredients in large pot. Cook just below simmering 1 hour. (Can be prepared 3 hours ahead. Cover and keep warm over very low heat.) Ladle into mugs. Garnish with orange peel.

Years ago, a friend of mine shared her easy recipe for glogg. Simmered on the stove, it'll warm up everyone from head to toe on a blustery day. -June Lindquist, Hammond, WI

6 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
4 cardamom pods, crushed
4 cups cranberry juice, divided
1 cup raisins
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups ruby port wine
Additional raisins, optional

Steps:

  • Place cloves, cinnamon and cardamom on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose seasonings; tie securely with string. Place in a large saucepan. Add 2 cups cranberry juice, raisins and sugar. Bring to a simmer; cook, uncovered, 10 minutes., Discard spice bag. Add wine and remaining cranberry juice; bring just to a simmer (do not boil). Serve warm in mugs with additional raisins if desired.

Hot Cranberry Glogg image

This is a nice, easy glogg recipe that's not too heavy on the alcohol. I like to serve this on Christmas Eve.

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 cups cranberry-apple juice
2 cups dry red wine
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1 whole cinnamon stick
3 whole cardamom pods, lightly crushed
4 whole cloves
1 slice orange, thin unpeeled
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup whole blanched almond

Steps:

  • In a glass or stainless steel bowl, combine juice, wine, sugar, water, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves (at this point, you can cover and refrigerate it until you need it).
  • Warm glögg in a pan over medium heat just until heated through- don't boil or the alcohol will boil off and then it's no fun.
  • Float orange slice on top.
  • To serve, keep warm over a candle or on an electric warming tray.
  • Ladle into cups, adding raisins and almonds to individual servings.
  • To make non-alcoholic, omit sugar and water and use 2 cups more cranberry-apple juice.
