CHUTNEY CHEESE BALL

You can purchase chutney at Krogers or at Honey Baked Ham stores.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb grated sharp cheddar cheese (do not buy already grated, it has a wax coating that won't work well)
1 tsp salt
12 green onions (chopped including green tops)
1 c slivered almonds (lightly toasted)
11/2 c mayonnaise
12 oz bacon
1 jar(s) chutney

Steps:

  • 1. Mix first 5 ingredients well and chill for more than an hour. In the meantime, cook bacon until crisp, drain and then crumble into pieces. Set aside bacon.
  • 2. When ready to serve, place cheese mixture on serving plate, flatten out to width of plate. Top with chutney, spreading evenly over cheese. Sprinkle crumbled bacon pieces on top of chutney.
  • 3. Serve with your favorite crackers or chips.

Cheese balls are a staple at holiday parties and this one must be on the menu. With bacon and cheese, what is there not to love about this yummy cheese ball? It has smokiness from the bits of bacon throughout and seasoned to perfection. This easy appetizer is going to go fast.

1 pkg cream cheese, 8 oz.
1/4 c grated Parmesan cheese
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp Lawry's seasoned salt
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
2 sprig(s) green onions, finely sliced
1/2 c chopped, cooked bacon (about 5-6 slices)
COATING/TOPPING
1/4 c shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 c cooked, chopped, crispy bacon (roughly 2-3 slices)

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, shredded cheddar, and garlic until blended.
  • 2. Stir in spices, bacon, and green onion.
  • 3. Shape into one large ball or three mini balls. Wrap cheese balls in plastic wrap; refrigerate at least 1 hour or until firm.
  • 4. Just before serving (at least 30 minutes), remove from refrigerator and unwrap from the plastic. Mix together the coating (bacon & cheese) and then roll chilled cheese ball in the coating until it is all covered. Serve with crackers, pretzels, veggies etc.

I went to a party where this was served and loved it. I couldn't get the recipe so I decided to experiment until I figured it out. This is the result. It's been very popular at parties I've taken it to. Prep time includes chilling time.

2 tablespoons curry powder
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 tablespoons dried currants
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
1 (10 ounce) jar chutnut chutney

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except chutney and mix thoroughly.
  • Form into a ball; wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm.
  • Just before serving remove from refrigerator and place on a serving platter.
  • Pour chutney over ball and spread with a spatula to coat evenly.
  • Serve with crackers.

1 bunch green onion, chopped

1 (9 ounce) jar mango chutney

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese, raisins, bacon, green onions and sour cream.

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup crumbled cooked bacon (about 12 strips), divided
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted, divided
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 jar (2 ounces) diced pimientos, drained
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
Assorted crackers

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Stir in shredded cheeses, 1/2 cup bacon, 1/4 cup pecans, onion, pimientos, pickle relish, salt and pepper. Refrigerate, covered, at least 1 hour., In a small bowl, mix parsley, poppy seeds and remaining bacon and pecans. Spread half the parsley mixture on a large plate.
