  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, milk and vanilla. Beat in chocolate until blended. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in walnuts., Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled
1 3/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons hot water

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Grease cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In large bowl, beat granulated sugar, 1/2 cup butter, the buttermilk, vanilla, egg and 2 ounces melted chocolate with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt.
  • On cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched in center. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • In 2-quart saucepan, melt 2 ounces chocolate and 2 tablespoons butter over low heat, stirring occasionally; remove from heat. Stir in powdered sugar and hot water until smooth. Back when I was a kid, my mom always made these around the Holidays. They were always SO good I could never stay out of them! This is one that I HAD to start making for my family during the Holidays. You can omit the raisins and or the pecans, but I've just always followed my Mom's recipe and added them.

1/2 c peanut butter (regular or chrunchy)
3 c quick cooking oatmeal
2 c sugar
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c milk
4 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c chopped pecans
1/2 c raisins

Steps:

  • 1. In a large pan, Mix sugar, shortening, milk, cocoa and bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Add peanut butter and stir until peanut butter is melted.
  • 2. Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla, oatmeal, pecans and raisins. Mix well and drop from spoon onto wax paper.
  • 3. Cool. After cooled store in an air tight container.

½ cup shortening
½ cup brown sugar
1 egg
¼ cup water
1 (18.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix
2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, shortening and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the egg and water. Beat in cake mix until well blended, then stir in the oats and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

These are chocolate cookies with marshmallows on top covered by chocolate frosting. This was my mom's recipe from the fifties.

1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup milk
18 large marshmallows
2 cups confectioners' sugar
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons margarine, softened
1 ½ tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa, set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla and milk. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until well blended. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8 minutes in the preheated oven. Cut the large marshmallows into halves. When the cookies come out of the oven, press one piece of marshmallow into the top of each one. Return the cookies to the hot oven for an additional 2 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, cocoa and salt. Beat in the softened margarine and heavy cream until icing is smooth. Frost cooled cookies.

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup tightly packed dark-brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
6 ounces semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 350 degrees. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter, peanut butter, and sugars until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, and mix on medium speed until combined. Sift flour and baking soda together, and add to butter mixture, beating just to combine. Fold in chocolate chunks.
  • Using a 1 1/2-ounce ice-cream scoop, form cookies, and place on a baking sheet lined with a Silpat, pressing down slightly to flatten. Bake until golden brown, 18 to 20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container up to 1 week.
