Out of OREO® crumbs for a recipe? Here is my homemade version. I make this for my homemade ice cream cakes or any recipe calling for OREO® or chocolate cookie crumbs.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup dark cocoa powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup butter, softened
⅓ cup white sugar
⅓ cup brown sugar
1 egg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
  • Whisk flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda together in a bowl. Beat butter, white sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract together with an electric mixer in another bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually beat flour mixture into butter mixture until dough is just incorporated. Spread dough out onto prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until set, about 14 minutes. Cool completely and crumble as desired.

Steps:

  • heat the sugar and water in a pan.
  • cut the Plain chocolate into small pellets about the size of a finger nail.
  • when the sugar reaches 130 degrees celsius / 266 fahrenheit.
  • note: if you haven't got thermometer wait until all sugar dissolved and starting to change medium brown colour.
  • then take off the heat.
  • get a whisk, add the chocolate bits and stir with the whisk.
  • make sure all the sugar coats the chocolate and stir for about 2 minutes.
  • empty out the mixture to a container.
  • pour hot water into the pan with the whisk and boil until the mixture starts to dissolve. it makes it easier to clean.
  • you can add different chocolate flavours if you like and spices.

The ingredient amounts are for one 9-inch pie or an 8 x 8-inch square baking pan, this makes a wonderful crust that slices perfectly without crumbling, you may bake the crust or prepare without baking, I prefer to bake it as the crust will hold together better, if you are not a lover of cinnamon you may omit :)

1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted margarine or 1/3 cup butter

1 cup crushed chocolate wafer crumbs
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons butter, melted
FILLING:
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Strawberries and white chocolate shavings, optional

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine cookie crumbs and sugar; stir in butter. Press onto the bottom of a greased 9-in. springform pan; set aside. In a microwave, melt chocolate chips; stir until smooth. Set aside., In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and flour until smooth. Add eggs; beat on low just until combined. Stir in vanilla and melted chocolate just until blended. Pour filling over crust., Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Carefully run a knife around edge of pan to loosen; cool 1 hour longer. Refrigerate overnight. , Garnish slices with strawberries and chocolate shavings if desired. Refrigerate leftovers.

Yield Makes one 9-inch round layer cake

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons chocolate graham-cracker crumbs (from about 7 cookies)
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
1 large egg white

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place graham cracker crumbs, cocoa powder, turbinado sugar, and salt in the bowl of a food processor; pulse to combine. Add melted butter and continue pulsing until well combined. Add egg whites and continue pulsing until crumbs begin to stick together.
  • Trace an 8-inch circle on a piece of parchment paper. Place paper pencil-side down on a baking sheet. Turn crumb mixture out onto parchment and form into a flat, even 8-inch disc, using the tracing as a guide.
  • Transfer to oven and bake until firm and middle appears dry, 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool completely before using.
