Steps:
- Cream butter & sugar, add eggs & vanilla. Beat until smooth. Blend in flour, baking soda & salt. Stir in walnuts and cherries.
- Separate into 2 balls and roll into logs and chill. Cut 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven on ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes, or until light golden brown. Do not overbake. Transfer to wire racks to cool.

CHERRY NUT COOKIES
A PRETTY cookie which will make your cookie tray at Christmas look good! The cherry and nut combination in a buttery base is delicious! A rolled type dough which can be made and baked later. These cookies freeze very well for make ahead plans. This basic cookie dough I have tried many times substituting different ad-ins.

Steps:
- Mix softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl and add to creamed mixture. Stir in candied cherries and pecans.
- Shape dough into long rolls about 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in wax paper and chill at least 4 hours. (May be made days ahead before baking and stored in refrigerator or freezer. Let dough thaw slightly before slicing.).
- Unwrap and cut into 1/4 inch slices; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake in a 350 degree oven for approximately 10 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 375*.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and cream cheese. With an electric mixer on medium speed, beat until creamy. Add eggs; beat 2 minutes scraping bowl after 1 minute. Add cake mix. Reduce mixer speed to low; beat until well combined. Fold in walnuts, cherries and coconut.
- On an ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoons 2 inches apart. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove from oven. Cool on pan 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Refrigerate, covered, 1 hour., Divide dough in half. Add cherry extract to 1 half and tint red. Knead almonds into remaining half. Wrap each half; refrigerate at least 3 hours or until firm enough to roll., On a baking sheet, roll each portion between 2 sheets of waxed paper into a 15x8-in. rectangle. - Beat well.
- Combine flour, salt and soda.
- Stir into creamed mixture.
