1 box (14.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ gingerbread cake and cookie mix
3/4 cup chunky applesauce
1/2 cup warm water
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped pitted dates or raisins
1/2 to 3/4 cup caramel topping
2/3 cup whipped cream topping in aerosol can

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, mix gingerbread mix, applesauce, water, butter and egg with spoon until well blended. Stir in dates. Spoon into ungreased 8- or 9-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish.
  • Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool slightly.
  • Top each warm square of gingerbread with caramel topping and whipped cream.

1/4 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 large apples, peeled and sliced
GINGERBREAD:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1/2 cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup brewed tea

Steps:

  • Pour butter into a 9-in. square baking pan; sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange apples over sugar; set aside. , For gingerbread, in a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, then molasses. Combine dry ingredients; add to sugar mixture alternately with tea, beating well after each addition. , Pour over apples. Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Serve warm.
