3/4 cup boiling water
1 ounce semisweet chocolate
1 1/2 tablespoon sugar
1 3/4 cup hot brewed coffee
1/2 cup whipping cream, scalded
1/2 cup milk, scalded
1/4 cup cognac
1/4 cup creme de cacao
cinnamon
nutmeg

Steps:

  • Combine water, chocolate and sugar in top of double boiler. Place over hot, but not boiling, water and simmer, stirring until chocolate is melted and sugar dissolved, about 2 or 3 minutes. Stir in coffee, cream, milk, cognac and creme de cacao. Pour into large preheated mugs and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.

1/2 cup water
1 cup half-and-half
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 -3 cups hot coffee
ground nutmeg, to garnish

Steps:

  • Place the chocolate, sugar, salt, and water in the top of a double boiler, and melt the chocolate.
  • Cook, stirring for 5 minutes, then add the cream.
  • Reheat, but do not let come to a boil.
  • Add the vanilla and the coffee.
  • Pour into cups and garnish with nutmeg if desired.
