1 (16 ounce) bottle apple cider
½ cup pure maple syrup
½ cup butter, softened
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground allspice

Steps:

  • In slow cooker over low heat, cook apple cider with maple syrup for 20 minutes or until steaming hot.
  • In a small bowl, combine butter, nutmeg and allspice. Mix well.
  • Pour cider into mugs and top with a teaspoon of spice butter.

Steps:

  • Mix 1 stick softened butter, 1/4 cup light brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon each ground nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves until combined. Put the butter on a piece of plastic wrap and roll into a 1-inch-thick log; wrap and chill 1 hour. Pour 3 cups apple cider into a slow cooker; cover and heat on high for 1 hour. Divide 1 cup bourbon among 6 glasses. Top each with hot cider and a slice of the spiced butter.
  • If you don't have a slow cooker, keep these drinks warm in a saucepan on the stovetop over low heat.

8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), room temperature
1/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1 cinnamon stick per serving
Optional: 16 oz rum or apple brandy

Steps:

  • Make spiced butter by combining butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt in a small bowl. Use a plastic spatula to transfer butter mixture to the middle of a 12" x 12" piece of plastic wrap. Fold plastic wrap over butter mixture and shape into a log, twisting ends to seal closed. Refrigerate until ready to use. Bring apple cider to a simmer over medium heat in a large pot, then turn heat to low. Remove spiced butter from plastic wrap and cut into 1-inch pieces. Add to hot cider and stir continuously until all butter is melted. Ladle buttered cider into mug, garnish with cinnamon stick and top with a shot of rum or apple brandy if desired. Serve hot.

Hot Buttered Apple Cider ~ hot buttered rum meets fresh apple cider (boozy or not) perfect for leaf peeping, pumpkin picking, and fireside chats.

4 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
3 Tbsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground allspice
pinch salt
4 cups apple cider
4 ounces rum (optional)
whipped cream and freshly grated nutmeg for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • To make the butter mixture, combine the room temperature butter with the brown sugar, spices, and salt in a bowl.
  • Mash the ingredients together with a fork or spoon until they become a smooth paste.
  • Heat the cider in a saucepan and, when hot, add the butter mixture and whisk or stir until the butter mixture is melted.
  • Pour into heat proof glasses or mugs and add an ounce of whiskey or rum to each serving (optional) and top with whipped cream and a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg, if desired.
