WASABI-AE (BROCCOLI WITH WASABI SAUCE )

Wasabi-Ae (Broccoli With Wasabi Sauce ) image

You can turn this into a one-dish meal by adding some protein of your choice, such as blanched and cut-up tofu, or poached and shredded chicken breast. The sauce is great with either. Use less wasabi if you find it too strong. From the blog "Just Hungry" . cooking time is approximate

Time 18m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 -5 cups broccoli, cut up (the flower part broken into small pieces, the stem part peeled and sliced thin)
salt and water (for cooking)
2 1/2 teaspoons wasabi powder, reconstituted to a paste with a few drops of water
4 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons sake
1 tablespoon sugar or 1 tablespoon artificial sweetener, of your choice

Steps:

  • Bring the water and salt to a boil. Cook the broccoli until it's crisp-tender and still a bright green in color. Drain, and refresh very briefly with cold running water. (Note: you can skip this step if you're not in a hurry and have time to cool the broccoli.).
  • In the meantime, mix together all the remaining ingredients except the wasabi in a small pan, and stir over a low heat until the sugar is melted. Let cool, and add the wasabi, reserving 1/2 tsp or so. Mix well until the wasabi is dissolved.
  • Pour the sauce over the broccoli and mix well. Serve at room temperature or chilled, optionally with a little additional wasabi on the side for people to mix into the broccoli as they eat it (if they really like wasabi).

AMAZING BROCCOLI DIP

Amazing Broccoli Dip image

This is the dip that I grew up on. When my mother would start preparing it on Christmas Eve, the aroma would immediately activate our salivary glands and we could not wait to dig in! Serve warm with sturdy potato chips, such as Ruffles® or Lay's® Wavy.

BROCCOLI AND WASABI DIP

Broccoli and Wasabi Dip image

The broccoli gives a bright green dip that doesn't discolour and the wasabi adds a touch of heat. Make this an hour or 2 in advance so that the flavours have time to blend. Serve with crackers or chips. From Jennifer McLagen of Food and Drink.

WASABI DIP

Wasabi Dip image

We like to serve this with grilled peppers and toasted baguette. Edited to add: if you're using store bought wasabi paste, be aware that it is MUCH weaker, and if you want it to have a kick, you'll need to add quite a bit more.
