This is the house salad from Machus Red Fox restaurant (now closed) in Bloomfield Township, Michigan--better known as the restaurant where Jimmy Hoffa was last seen. Recipe from "Itadakimasu" cookbook put together by The Women's Group of the Tokyo American Club.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb bacon
1 head lettuce
2 large tomatoes, sliced thin
1/2 purple onions or 1 onion, the size of a golf ball
1 (4 ounce) package blue cheese, crumbled
1/8 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper

Steps:

  • Fry bacon until very crisp and crumble.
  • Tear lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
  • Slice onion tissue-paper thin.
  • Chill all items while you make the dressing.
  • Mix together the oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Make sure the salad and dressing are well-chilled.
  • To serve, mix together the dressing and lettuce, and toss lightly.
  • Garnish with bacon, blue cheese, tomato and onion.
  • Serve immediately.

3 tablespoons buttermilk
3 tablespoons sour cream
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
¼ teaspoon sugar
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mash blue cheese and buttermilk together with a fork until mixture resembles large-curd cottage cheese. Stir in sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, and garlic powder until well blended. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1-1/2 teaspoons minced chives
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 to 1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
Torn mixed salad greens

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Stir in enough buttermilk to achieve desired consistency. Stir in blue cheese. Cover and store in the refrigerator. Serve with salad greens.

3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt (scant)
1/3 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/3 cups mayonnaise
4 ounces danish blue cheese, crumbled

Steps:

  • In a mixer bowl, blend sour cream, mustard, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and Worcestershire for 2 minutes at low speed.
  • Add mayonnaise. Blend 1/2 minute at low speed and 2 minutes at medium speed.
  • By hand, crumble cheese into mixture. Blend at low speed no more than 4 minutes.
  • Refrigerate 24 hours before serving.

1/2 c honey
1/2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp granulated onion
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp dry mustard

  • 1. Mix all well adding oil 2 oz. at a time.Refngerate 3 hours.
