Time 25m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 11

4 center-cut pork loin chops (about 1 inch thick), trimmed of excess fat
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
1 1/2 teaspoons rice or other light vinegar
1 teaspoon honey

Steps:

  • Heat gas or charcoal grill. Rinse pork chops; pat dry. Rub with vegetable oil; drizzle with orange juice. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • In small bowl, beat basting sauce ingredients with whisk until well blended.
  • Place pork on hottest side of grill; sear 1 to 2 minutes on each side, being careful not to burn pork. Move pork to cooler side of grill; cook 10 to 20 minutes, turning several times and basting both sides generously with soy sauce mixture, until pork is firm to the touch, juices run clear and center is just pink when cut with knife. (The timing will depend on the heat of the grill and the thickness of the chops. Covering the grill will speed the cooking time.) Discard any remaining basting sauce.
  • If desired, serve pork over hot cooked pasta or rice.

Asian cuisines are renowned for their diversity, flavors, and aromas. When it comes to grilled meats, Asian flavors can add a unique twist to traditional meat preparations. Pork chops are a perfect meat cut for grilling, and the addition of Asian elements can take it up a notch. In this article, we will discuss valuable tips to make Asian grilled pork chops recipes that are mouth-watering and delicious.

Choose the right pork chops

The first and foremost aspect of preparing grilled pork chops is selecting the right pork chops. Pork chops are the meat cuts from the loin region of the pig. The best pork chops for grilling are those that have good marbling, which indicates a good amount of fat content in the chops. Thin chops are great for quick grilling, but thicker cuts provide more tender and juicy meat. Hence, you should choose thick cuts of pork chops with a thickness of around 1.25-1.5 inches for grilling.

Marination is key

Marination is a critical element for making grilled pork chops. The marinade not only adds flavor to the meat but also tenderizes it. You can try and experiment with various Asian-inspired marinades that can add a unique touch to your grilled pork chops recipe. A simple marinade recipe could be a mix of soy sauce, honey, crushed garlic, and grated ginger. Marinate the pork chops overnight or for at least 2-3 hours to ensure that the flavor blends in with the chop.

Add some heat

Asian cuisines are known for their liberal use of chili peppers and other spicy ingredients. Adding a bit of heat to your grilled pork chops can take them to a whole new level of flavor. You can use chili flakes, Szechuan pepper, Thai bird's eye chili, or any other spicy ingredient you prefer. Be careful not to overdo the heat as it can overpower the overall flavor of the dish.

Experiment with herbs and spices

Apart from chili and other spicy ingredients, Asian cuisines also feature a wide range of herbs and spices that can be added to your grilled pork chops. The use of herbs and spices can vary depending on the region and the type of cuisine. Some common herbs and spices to try in your marinade include lemongrass, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and star anise.

Opt for low and slow cooking

To achieve juicy and tender pork chops, low and slow cooking is the way to go. Grilling over high heat can lead to dry and tough meat. It's best to grill the pork chops at medium heat for around 12-15 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the chops. You can also use a meat thermometer to ensure that the internal temperature of the pork chop reaches 145°F.

Glaze it up

Adding a glaze to your grilled pork chops can take their taste to another level. A glaze can be made using various ingredients, such as honey, molasses, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, or any other sweet or savory ingredient that you like. Brush the glaze on the pork chops during the last few minutes of cooking and let it caramelize to form a delicious crust on the meat.

Let it rest

After taking your pork chops off the grill, let them rest for a few minutes before cutting. This lets the juices settle and ensures that the meat is not dry. Cut the pork chops against the grain for maximum tenderness.
Conclusion
In conclusion, grilling pork chops with Asian flavors can add a unique twist to traditional meat preparations. Choosing the right pork chops, marinating, adding heat and experimenting with herbs and spices can take your grilled pork chops to a whole new level. Cooking low and slow, glazing, and resting the meat are key steps to achieving juicy and tender pork chops. Try out these valuable tips, and you're sure to impress your guests with your flavorful Asian grilled pork chops recipe.
