PAM'S ASIAN CHICKEN NOODLE BOWL (PHO)

Pam's Asian Chicken Noodle Bowl (Pho) image

This is my take on a quick, at home version of Pho. Some of my ingredients are non traditional, but it's my recipe, right? My husband's eyes light up when I hand him a giant bowl of this to enjoy and that's what counts.

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 19

FOR THE BROTH
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, you can use other cuts if preferred
1 Tbsp better than bullion chicken flavor
1/2 white onion
1 tsp ground ginger in the tube, or fresh grated ginger
1 tsp ground lemongrass in the tube, or stalk fresh
1 Tbsp thai fish sauce
FOR THE BOWLS
1 pkg pho noodles, or substitute rice noodles or regular thin spaghetti
4 or 5 leaves napa cabbage, sliced across in 1 inch sections
1 c snow pea pods
1/2 c julienne or matchstick carrots
1 c fresh bean sprouts
2 c fresh baby spinach
GARNISHES
1 jalapeno sliced thin
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
thai red chili sauce or siracha sauce
1 fresh limes cut in wedges

Steps:

  • 1. Note: I use breasts to keep it low fat. If you want a more traditional flavor use skin on bone in pieces of your choice. Adjust your cooking time.
  • 2. Ingredient note: I use the tubes of ginger and lemongrass that you find in the produce section of the grocery. It's a time saver for me and I always have them on hand.
  • 3. Place everything for the broth in a pot with about 3 quarts of water. Bring to a slow simmer and skim off the skum that rises.
  • 4. When chicken is done remove it from the pot. About 20 minutes for boneless breasts. Leave the broth simmering.
  • 5. Prepare your noodles according to package directions. Drain in a colander and rinse with cold water.
  • 6. Have all of your bowl ingredients ready. Put the snow peas, cabbage, and carrots in the broth. Turn up heat and cook on a low boil for 5 minutes.
  • 7. While that's cooking assemble the bowls. Place noodles in first, top with spinach and sprouts.
  • 8. Slice the chicken and place on top.
  • 9. Ladle the hot broth into the bowls. The heat will be enough to cook the spinach and sprouts.
  • 10. Serve immediately with the garnishes.

Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl recipes are savory and flavorful dishes that are quite popular among food lovers. These dishes often feature a blend of exotic herbs and spices, chicken, snow peas, and a variety of noodles such as udon, ramen or soba. They are often served piping hot, and are a perfect comfort food for chilly days. This article will take a closer look at the ingredients and cooking methods of these tasty and nutritious dishes.

Ingredients

One of the standout features of this dish is the use of a wide range of fresh ingredients. This includes the use of lean chicken meat, which is usually sliced or cubed into bite-sized pieces. Other ingredients used in these dishes include snow peas, which add a slightly sweet and crunchy texture to the dish, and noodles, which can be chosen according to personal preference. For example, soba noodles are a popular choice for people who prefer a lighter and healthier option, while ramen noodles are typically used to create soup-based dishes with a richer and creamier flavor.
Spices and flavorings
To create the unique and complex flavor profiles of these dishes, a variety of spices and flavorings are typically used. Some of the most commonly used spices include ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder. These spices help to enhance the natural flavors of the other ingredients and give the dish a more robust and satisfying taste. Along with the spices, a variety of sauces and flavorings such as soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil are used to tie everything together into a fragrant, mouth-watering dish.

Cooking methods

One of the joys of these dishes is that they can be prepared in a variety of ways according to personal preference. Some of the most popular cooking methods include stir-frying, boiling, and baking.
Stir-frying
Stir-frying is a cooking method which involves quick cooking over high heat. A wok or a frying pan is typically used for this method and the ingredients are cooked together with a small amount of oil. It’s important to add the ingredients in the correct order, usually starting with the protein and ending with the snow peas so that everything is cooked to perfection.
Boiling
Boiling is a simple and effective cooking method that’s great for dishes like ramen noodle bowls. In this method, the noodles are cooked in a pot of boiling water until they are al dente, and then drained. The chicken and snow peas are then added to the pot to cook. After that, the broth and sauces are added to infuse the dish with flavor.
Baking
For a healthier and more convenient option, one can create delicious and satisfying noodle bowls by baking the chicken and snow peas instead of stir-frying them. In this method, the chicken and snow peas are seasoned and placed on a baking sheet, and then baked for 15-20 minutes until fully cooked. The noodles are then cooked separately and arranged in a bowl with the chicken, snow peas, and sauces on top

Overall, Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl dishes are a perfect combination of healthy ingredients, unique flavors, and versatility. These dishes can be adjusted and adapted to different tastes, dietary needs, and cooking preferences. If you're looking for a tasty yet healthy dinner option, you can't go wrong with Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowls. These bowls are packed with protein, fiber, and vegetables, making them a nutritious and satisfying meal. However, making the perfect Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl can be a bit of a challenge. That's why we've put together these valuable tips to help you make the perfect Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl that will leave your taste buds wanting more.

Tip 1: Choose the right noodles

When making an Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl, the type of noodles you select is essential. You'll want a noodle that's sturdy enough to hold up to the sauce and ingredients, but not too heavy that it overpowers the dish. We recommend using soba or udon noodles. Soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour, so they're gluten-free and have a nuttier taste. Udon noodles are thicker and chewier, making them an excellent option for a more substantial noodle.

Tip 2: Don't overcook your chicken

The chicken in your Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowls is a crucial ingredient, and you want it to be cooked to perfection. Overcooking the chicken will result in a tough and dry texture. We suggest cooking your chicken on high heat until it's golden brown on both sides, then finishing it off in the oven. This will ensure your chicken is cooked all the way through and remains tender and juicy.

Tip 3: Use fresh vegetables

Using fresh vegetables is key to achieving a flavorful and nutritious Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl. Snow peas are a great option as they are crunchy, sweet, and loaded with important vitamins and minerals. You can also add other vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, and bok choy. Make sure to cut your vegetables into small, bite-sized pieces to make them easy to eat.

Tip 4: Make your own sauce

Making your sauce is an excellent way to control the flavor and ingredients in your Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl. One of our favorite sauces is a sweet and savory combination of soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger. Simply whisk these ingredients together in a bowl and pour over your chicken and vegetables. You can also add a splash of rice vinegar or lime juice for a tangy flavor.

Tip 5: Add some crunch

Adding some crunch to your Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl will take the dish to the next level. You can use toppings such as chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, or crispy fried onions. These toppings not only provide texture but also add additional flavor to the dish.

Tip 6: Take the time to plate your dish

The presentation of your Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl is just as important as the taste. Take the time to plate your dish by arranging the noodles, chicken, and vegetables in a visually pleasing way. You can also garnish with fresh herbs such as cilantro or parsley for an added burst of flavor.
Conclusion
Making the perfect Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl is all about selecting the right ingredients, cooking techniques, and presentation. With these valuable tips, you can create a dish that's nutritious, satisfying, and bursting with flavor. So, next time you're craving a healthy yet delicious meal, try making your Asian chicken and snow pea noodle bowl at home.
